"Firstly, you're our only daughter. Your name is Heather Williams and you're turning 18 this year—yay!" she jazz-handed her excitement. "You told me before how much you wanted a glamourized party with fancy cocktails and everything."

My eyebrows raised, "Heather— I said that?"

I was told that I'm Heather but for now, it felt like she was a close friend...maybe even a cousin, so maybe I'll refer to her as that.

"I'll get myself some coffee. Heather, do you want anything?" Dad's quiet tone didn't match his masculine looks, especially with his mustache, but I set aside the thought.

"Coffee sounds nice," I replied, his stoic expression almost making me knit my eyebrows.

"Honey, about that..." My head turned toward Mom and she gave me a thin-lipped smile. "You always go for water."

Oh.

"I guess I'll just opt for water here, thanks anyway Dad." His stoic expression turned into a soft gaze before he turned around and left.

"Your dad doesn't talk much. He has selective mutism so it's not every time you hear him talk... but he shows his love through actions, it's easy to see."

Nodding, I looked at the door, trying hard to remember at least something but to no avail. I shook my head and just focused on what was in front of me.

"What do I do?"

"What do you mean?"

"I meant what do I usually do? It's January 17th, do I go to school?"

Her mouth formed an 'o' in surprise, "Yes! I almost forgot to tell you, you're the student council president in your school. Your best friend's the vice president, you two are pretty well known around. Since the accident, I asked Kim to make sure you'll be able to catch up when you're back."

Well, she didn't lie when she said I'd be amazed. She said it as if it's a small thing to be having that title. The first three things I got about her already gave me enough information about what kind of person she is.

Heather seemed like the cliche popular white girl.

The name Kim didn't ring a bell for me and I was more interested in knowing who I was as of the moment. "What do I like to do?"

"To be honest, I don't know what you generally love to do these days," she laughed to herself, "but I do know you enjoy volunteering. A few months ago, you went to this beach cleanup event and helped quite a ton—wait, I'll show you."

She pulled out a phone from her pocket and typed on it briefly, her nails making a clicking sound as it hit the screen. "Here, honey, see how everyone's looking at you?"

Wow. It was the first time I'd seen myself. I haven't gotten out of bed nor was given a mirror but damn I looked attractive.

I reached and grabbed a part of my hair, seeing golden blonde made me look back at the picture in surprise.

It had no filter, the girl standing behind the podium with people in front had the same color as the one I just saw now. Her smile radiated sunlight and her eyes were full of conviction.

In the picture, her mouth was slightly opened, most likely in the middle of saying something. The way she stood and the way she looked, I would listen to every word she said too.

It was still a shock to me that the person I referred to was me.

Mom swiped to another photo. Heather had her hair tied up in a high ponytail, blue-gray eyes squinting at the camera with a smile in a group photo.
