"𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐆 back to
school?" I ask Paris, speaking on the phone.

"Tomorrow, apparently. My mom's bringing home a new face."

"Really?"

"Yeah, there's a doctor in France who injects some kind of gel into your face and makes it malleable."

"Interesting..."

"She has to sleep on her back for a month or she'll wake up with a flat face."

"Oh, God..." I scrunch up my nose in disgust.

"Yeah, I'll have to get back to school when she gets home, so..."

"It'll be fine."

"You can't know that!" Paris replied panicked "What if people start mocking me about the meltdown?"

"I'll kick their asses because it was justified."

"Thanks," she says "You need to send me more homework, I'm getting too bored here."

"There is no more homework, you practically finished your first year of college!"

"Funny, then what do I do?"

"It's your last day of freedom, go outside! Go have fun! Don't think!"

"What can I do outside?"

"You're thinking! Just do!"

"But—"

"Still thinking!"

"What if—"

"Stop thinking, Paris! Turn off your brain!"

"Fine! I'll see you tomorrow!" she says, irritated.

"See ya!" I reply.

When I put the phone back in its place, Mom comes in "Hey, honey."

"Hey!" I reply.

"Are you coming to Lorelai's birthday, on Friday?"

"You know I wish I could, but I can't be there with Rory."

"Is it possible that maybe you two are dragging it too much?"

"No, it's not, she said something referring to my father and it is not forgivable."

"Perhaps you could talk and share some news about college, maybe you'll find out that you missed her despite the hurtful words."

"Nope."

"Are you sure?"

"One hundred percent, tell Lorelai I'd have liked to come and wish her a happy birthday for me, will you?"

"Yeah, fine. Hey, what have you got planned tonight?" Mom asks.

"Movie night with Jess," I reply, slipping a shoe on.
