𝐀 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐇 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐏𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐃 since Olive had written Jess back, the temperature had noticeably lowered making Olive's nose so red.
She thought it was poetic, though, having her face be gracefully flushed by November's cold breezes. A whole fucking month, and she'd never gotten to hear back, by the way.

She was very happy, regardless. She continued going on dates with Scott and rarely thought about Jess.

It was inevitable not to, she just wondered why on Earth he would send her a letter, have her stress over it, have her write back, and then just not have the decency to respond.

Unless the letter hadn't gotten lost, or accidentally shredded, or was stolen by an animal she saw no reason for all of it.

She also ended up questioning herself, had she written the right address? Had she actually sent out the letter?
All sorts of questions and uncertainties built up in her head, Jess managed to haunt her even without him actively wanting to.

"Do you think they lost my letters?" Olive asked Linda. She was sitting on her bed, legs crossed, with her psychology book on her lap.
Linda, however, was just resting her head against a pillow.

"Who's they?"

"The people at the post office, do you think they lost it?"

"What do you care? You got a brand-new boyfriend!" Linda tried to change the subject.

"Come on! I'm just curious, why wouldn't he write me back? You know, he reached out first, it's only polite!"

"Maybe he just got over you, you did take your sweet time to write back."

"You really think he got over me?"

"I should hope so, you got over him, right?"

You got over him, right?

Well, that certainly was a question.
Olive genuinely didn't know, she had gotten a new boyfriend and she very much cared for him. But why was she bothering so much with Jess' reply not arriving yet?

"Long over, you know that..." It was an instinctual reply, a shield from the conversation the truth could have led Olive and Linda to.

"Right, it's obvious, with Scott and everything..."

"Wouldn't be fair to Scott," Olive nodded along.

"Right, so why are you stressing so much?"

"Jess and I were friends, first and foremost, I just wish I could know how he's been spending the last six months."
