Bill and Emilia talked adamantly to each other despite never being very close before. They talked briefly years ago when they first met, but someone could easily mistake them for lifelong friends.

Tom engaged in the conversation as much as he could, but found himself drifting off into his thoughts majority of the time.

There was one seat left empty at the table of four, right beside Emilia's seat and across from Tom's. Maeve had yet to arrive.

Tom had thought of multiple excuses to use in order to avoid attending. Like how his mystery sickness had returned, or how he had already made plans. Regardless of what he might've said, Bill was stubborn.

"You two definitely changed quite a bit." Emilia remarked,"especially your hair." She gestured to the two men Infront of her.

"I never seem to lose my beauty. I always look good." Bill boasted, he pretended to dramatically flick his hair over his shoulder.

Tom rolled his eyes at his brothers antics, but said nothing.

"Sorry I'm late. I had to help Ben choose a suit."

That familiar voice interrupted whatever Emilia was going to say next. A woman in an elegant blood red dress and heels rushed over to the table, somehow still maintaining perfect elegance. Her flowery perfume filled Tom's senses. He found himself enjoying the smell.
Her hair was curled and pushed back with a clip on one side. It suited her perfectly. Her silver jewellery twinkled as the light hit it.

The three people who were already sitting at the table turned to look at her. Bill and Emilia smiled in greeting, reassuring her that they weren't waiting long. Tom avoided eyecontact, sipping at his whisky instead and keeping quiet.

"I love having us all in the one place!" Emilia laughed, she looked around at the people sitting at her table with pure joy, beaming at each of them.
"God, why did it take nine years?"

Maeve awkwardly looked down at her lap knowing she was to blame for that.

She heard someone chuckle. She followed the noise until she was staring straight at Tom, he was already looking at her. He had one hand holding the rim of his class of whisky, and the other in his lap.

Maeve glared at him. She already felt like shit, he didn't have to make it worse.

Bill looked between his twin and friend with a frown. The tension was practically choking him. Glancing over at Emilia, he knew she was feeling the same.

"So..." Bill cleared his throat, "Any exciting plans coming up?" Bill directed the question to Maeve. Hinting at her habit of constantly moving from place to place.

"Well." Maeve started off, she tried to find the words but with Tom's heavy stare, it was practically impossible. "I was thinking about returning to my home in New Zealand. Maybe for a few months."

Out of the corner of her eye she could see Tom finish the remainder of his whisky. She watched as Emilia's eyes widened and briefly flicker in Tom's direction to see his reaction. Of course, Tom kept his face blank.
Bill's brows furrowed, Maeve could see the questions forming in his mind.

"You don't like it in LA?" Bill questioned. He looked genuinely saddened.

"No, no of course I do!" Maeve smiled as she reassured her friend. "It's just, things have been- complicated. I think going home would ease it all." She hoped she sounded more confident than how she felt.

Awkwardly she looked at Emilia for comfort. Emilia smiled warmly at her bestfriend, she had the smallest bit of worry in her eyes but still managed to make Maeve feel calm.
