Chapter 1 : House Of Bishops

6 1 1

Its morning, I hear the sound of the rooster as I jump out of bed energetically. I carry out my early morning rituals and dive down the stairs into the dinning room.
          "Good morning mama"
"Good morning my dear" mama replies with a smile on her face. She turns around to look at me and then sighs.
I know exactly why she sighed, so I send a smile at her.
Mama is a well known and respected bishop here in the land of the wind(ani-ukuku). She is a member of THE HOUSE OF BISHOPS, yes she's that strong.
Mama sighed because no matter how many times she tells me to dress like a lady when I'm going to the house of bishops, I just won't listen, and who would blame me those things are just not comfortable, they ich and they are hard to move in. I guess she's basically just tired of always saying it.
I was wearing a white top with a short brown short. I put on my white cape and pick up my back pack.
"Mama I'm living!" I shout as I'm about to open the door. As I open the door to live, she calls out to me as she dashes down from the stairs
"Ella!,why don't you wear this beautiful gown".
I really thought she was tired,I guess I was wrong then.
"Mama, I told you, I can't cast spells in those"
"I don't believe that Ella, I mean I cast spells in mine right?"
"But its true mama" I try explaining
"No matter, if you keep wearing them, you'll get used to it"
I dash out the door to avoid her forcing it on me
              "Ella!!" She screams my name
"I love you mama" I scream as I run and laugh.
As I run,I hear the sound of the morning bell.
"Shit I'm late" I scream out in the middle of the market. The market always being very noisy, I doubt any one would hear my voice. The smell of meat and vegetables mix up and dance around in the air, puddles of smelly dirty water lay around on almost every turn, the market sellers always looking the same, even the nobles who enjoyed the job always dressed like peasants and it always baffles me.
I can't afford to be late, if not I was going to be punished by the head bishop, and I just can't with that old man, he gives me the creeps.
"Flying Wind" I cast a wind style spell that allows me to fly and it accidentally scatters the goods of the stores around me.
"Ahhh! This problem child you again" one of the market women scream at me as I take off.
"Good morning Mrs Okoh" I greet her even when I know she wouldn't take it
"Keep it to yourself aunty" she screams at me again.
I chuckle as I fly away. Two minutes later,I get to the house of bishops and run through the hall way in hopes to beat the first teacher to class.
As I run, I sense the presence of the head bishop standing in front of his office door, not inside but also not outside either.
"Ella dear" he calls out to me as I stop in my tracks. "I had to make sure you noticed me" he has a habit of always reminding me that I'm blind.
"I did father Daniel, I know I can't see but remember that my mum placed a perception spell on my ears, my nose, my tongue, my skin?" I try as hard as possible to emphasize on them.
"Oh Yes, that's true" he says while he laughs. "You're late again" he says as he switches his demeanor from a happy one to a sinister one.
"eeeeee!!" I squeal in shock. "I'm sorry father Daniel,it won't happen again"
"That's what you said last time" Father Daniel says still angry
"I know, I know, I promise this time"
"Fiiinnee, this is the last time" he says reverting back to his happy demeanor.
I swear, if I didn't know him, I'd think he had mental issues.
Luckily for me, I got to class before the teacher did. Miss Stella's class was brief and interesting like always. She was our circle constructions teacher, she's my favorite teacher, everything she does, she does without stress, always so laid back but at the same time very good at her job.
I was arranging my books into my bag when I felt someone approaching me. It was Jeff, my best friend. He was off peasant blood, a pawn ability user. He has a light brown colored hair, brown eyes. He wore his favorite crimson red T-shirt and a black trouser
                  "Ella,what up?" he asks smiling.
"Hey Jeff, I'm good, what are you doing here " I ask in surprise.
"I came to watch you in your dueling class today" he says as he takes my back pack from me.
"Don't you have anything better to do?"
"No I don't and I just want to watch you kick some ass, that's all" he says laughing.
                "Yh right!" I say sarcastically
"I'm serious, I know your better than your class mates"
"Whatever Jeff, do what you want"
"Of course...., I'll be watching from the trees" he says smiling.
Jeff had a habit of climbing trees, he said its better to view the world from above than from below, but his father says otherwise.
We both walked to the dueling arena. It's a hall we use for training and games. It has no roof so the sun hits the green and yellow leaves of the trees in the arena. The arena was built in like a garden, it had flowers, a small lake, and as I already mentioned,it had trees too with seats around a clear grass field.
Jeff jumped from one height to another into the trees.
The dueling instructor was Miss Vivian, my mothers sister. She has white long beautiful hair and blue eyes. Her dark skin went perfectly with her blue bishop attire. She stepped into the arena a few seconds after Jeff and I did.
"Okay class, settle down" she said staring straight at me. "Last week, I gave you your dueling partners, so according to the order you were placed on the list, please out and begin".
It took the first two sets thirty minutes to finish their duels and then it was finally my turn. My partner was Kingston, and coincidentally, he's of royal blood, with king abilities, and so we just call him King. He's light skinned like me, has red hair and eyes and to top it all off, he's really cute, but at the same time, I can't stand him.
He's always acting like everyone should like him cause his mother is Queen. I don't even know why he chooses to attend a school in a small town like this.
"Ella, King, it's your turn" Miss Vivian signals at us.
We both walk up to each other to shake hands, a sign that the match is not a violent one. As well shake hands, he whispers into my ear.
"I'll try to go easy on you"
It pisses me off,but I just stand there smiling.
                "START!!" Miss Vivian shouts out.
