Eddie took Stevie to a small diner a couple of blocks away from the club they were at. It was one of the spots that she and the guys had discovered the first time they had been in the city after a concert. It was the perfect spot for a first date.
Eddie and Stevie sat across from each other in one of the booths. They had just ordered a milkshake and fries to share. They had been talking nonstop since the moment they got out of the club, only stopping to order their food. Eddie had discovered that Stevie was an only child and didn't talk to her parents at all anymore. She owned a very successful hair salon in Chicago with Robin, and they were always booked and busy. She could tell that it was Stevie's passion just from the way her eyes lit up the moment she started talking about her salon. She also talked about Robin a lot, calling her her platonic soulmate. In return, Eddie told her about her uncle Wayne who lived in Indiana and had raised her since she was eleven years old. She told her about the boys, and she tried to avoid talking about her career but decided it would be best to just come clean with who she really was.
"So, you're in a metal band? That's so cool!" Stevie said with enthusiasm.
It was usually at this point where Eddie could tell if the woman she was talking to was just pretending, having known all along who she really was. She observed Stevie and she could tell she was being sincere about her reaction. She didn't actually know who Eddie was.
Eddie smiled at her and nodded, "Yeah we're called Corroded Coffin!"
Stevie paused for a second and looked like she was deep in thought. "I think I've heard of you guys actually. I think one of the kids I used to babysit listens to you. I'll have to ask Dustin the next time I talk to him."
What a small world, Eddie thought. She knew that most people who weren't into metal music or at least rock music, had never heard of the band before. What were the chances that Stevie had actually heard of them before they met?
Stevie's phone began to ding as several messages began to arrive. "Oh, speak of the devil and he shall appear. Dustin just texted me." She shook her head fondly before putting her phone down after looking to make sure it was nothing urgent. Dustin could wait a couple hours while she was enjoying her date.
Eddie could tell she really loved the kids from how fondly she spoke of him. "Hey, why don't we take a picture, and you send it to him?" Eddie normally wouldn't suggest this, but it was Stevie, and she would do anything for her. She watched as Stevie's face brightened up, but she looked unsure.
"Are you sure? I don't want to make you think that I only like you because you're a rockstar or something like that. I really like you Eddie, even if we've only known each other for a few hours."
Eddie couldn't help but look at Stevie with adoring eyes. Just from looking at her she could tell that everything she said and did was genuine. She had never met another woman like Stevie.
"Of course, I'm sure. I wouldn't have suggested it if I wasn't. Now, let me sit next to you so we can take the picture and you can send it to Dustin." Eddie got up from her side of the booth and sat closely next to Stevie. As she sat down, she smelled the sweet scent of Stevie's perfume. Stevie looked at her and smiled widely, opening up the camera on her phone and getting even closer to Eddie. Eddie wrapped an arm around her shoulders and got close to her face, their cheeks touching and the smiles on their faces wide. Stevie snapped a few pictures and sent one right away to Dustin. After she put her phone down, she didn't move away from Eddie. She turned a bit more, so their sides were completely touching, and she relaxed her body against Eddie's. Eddie really hoped that she couldn't feel how fast her heart was beating.
Dustin responded almost instantly, and Eddie laughed when Stevie showed her the frantic messages he sent her. Stevie responded quickly and vaguely, promising to give him the details later.
They continued to talk, this time next to one another and touching each other more freely. It was all gentle hand brushes and hair tucking and Eddie wrapping her arm abound Stevie's waist. When their food arrived, they barely separated and if a stranger were to see them, they would think they had been together for years. It was the most comfortable and connected the two of them had felt with anyone in a very long time.
It was nearing the end of the night, and they were both dreading leaving each other. They were standing outside of the diner, still talking and prolonging the moment they would inevitably have to leave each other for the night. Eddie and the band would be in town for the next three days, one of those being a show and the other two to just rest in the city. She was planning on seeing Stevie for those days if she was still in town and willing to see her, which she was pretty sure was the case.
"So, I'm in the city for the next three days. If you, you know want to do something? Only if you want too of course. I could get you and your friends some backstage passes if you wanted to come see us play? You can totally say no though, no hard feelings I will gladly-"
Stevie wrapped her arms around Eddie's middle and hugged her close. " Of course, I want to go see you. Just tell me the time and place and I'll be there cheering you on."
Eddie gulped and slowly wrapped her arms around Stevie too. She looked down into her eyes and said, "Yeah, yeah absolutely. Here let me give you my number and I'll text you the details and everything." she reluctantly let go of Stevie to grab her phone so Stevie and her could exchange numbers.
After, the two stood and looked at one another in silence. It was a good type of silence, the two just admiring the other.
Stevie finally broke the silence when she saw a taxi driving closer. "Well, I should probably head back to Nancy's place. They'll both be worried if I stay out too long." She bit her lip as watched Eddie and simultaneously walked closer to the street to catch the attention of the taxi driver.
With a slight shake in her hand, Eddie reached out to grab one of Stevie's before she could call the taxi. "Do you want to come back to my hotel with me? We don't have to do anything; we can just sleep. I can even sleep on the couch, but I really just want to be with you." Eddie rambled and looked around nervously, avoiding Stevie's eyes until she was too close to ignore. She could feel her short breaths against her flushed face.
"Yes," she whispered. "I'll go with you Eddie." Eddie's heart stuttered as she whispered her name. "Can I kiss you?" she asked in a hushed voice.
Eddie didn't even answer, her hands holding her cheeks and kissing her gently. She had kissed many women throughout the years, but none of them compared to Stevie. Kissing Stevie felt like a breath of fresh air after having swam under water for hours. It felt like the start of something new, exciting and passionate.
After a few moments, they both pulled away, grins wide on their faces. Stevie grabbed Eddie's hand and pulled her closer to the street, finally waving down a taxi. "Come on Munson, take me to your bed."
