Hi! I hope you are not too mad at me at the end of next chapter, but the show must go on, so here we go again!

Once again, for those of you who have weak nerves, I would recommend stop reading right at this point. But for the rest, I hope you could understand😏

Nothing that day showed her what she would have to go through. She came to the firestation with Émilie early in the morning, she hid her jacket in her locker and she went to turn the kettle on while Émilie prepared the tea bags. They were chatting and everything was just fine.

"Tu comptes rentrer chez toi à Noël, Penny?(Do you plan to go visit home on Christmas, Penny?)" Mattieu asked her curiously.

"Nous sommes en octobre, Mathieu. Je ne pense pas encore à Noël(It is October, Mathieu. I'm not thinking of Christmas yet)" Penny laughed.

"Oui, mais Antoine aime se faire remettre bien avant une fiche de journée libre pour pouvoir demander un remplacement.(Yes, but Antoine likes to have a free day form handed to him long before, so he can ask for repleacement)" Mattieu tried to imitate their captain's sternly voice.

"Il n'est pas comme ça(He is not like that)" Penny tried to defend him. Since she disrespected him, he deeply changed the way he treated Émilie and her. He let them in the action much more often and even sometimes asked Penny for advise.

"Et qui dit ça?(And who tells that?)" Mattieu looked at her teasingly. "Une personne qui était la plus en colère lorsqu'il lui causait des problèmes parce qu'elle ne lui avait pas dit qu'elle ne prendrait pas son service parce qu'elle était malade? N'était-ce pas toi, Penny?(A person who was the angriest when he made her problems that she didn't tell him she wasn't going to be on the shift, because she was sick? Wasn't it you, Penny?)"

"Oui, c'était moi. Mais ça n'a rien à voir avec ça(Yes, it was me. But it doesn't have nothing to do with this)" Penny objected. "Noël est encore loin(Christmas are still far away)" she reminded, but she didn't want to continue this talk, and knowing Mathieu he wouldn't let it fall off the table too quickly, so she excused him and walked out of the kitchen.

She walked over to the hall. She didn't want to be honest with herself, but few days ago Ellie also asked her if she planed  to come back to visit Pontypandy. Penny refused to answer back then, waving it off with a joke. But deep inside she knew it would be entirely different this year.

And as if she had asked for it, she heard a familiar sound of a call bell. She came to her locker, pretty sure it was her phone, because she never heard such a sound here.

"Ellie" Penny picked up her phone. "What do you want? I'm on shift".

"I'm sorry, Penny" she said sadly, before she disconnected.

"What?" Penny asked confused. "Ellie!" She sighed in disbelief when she heard the end of the call. Her best friend surely wanted to make some stupid joke on her again.

And, beliving that thought, she walked from behing the line of lockers, only to come across Antoine. She looked up at him to meet his always calm and controlled eyes.

"Bonjour(Good morning)" she welcomed him politely.

"Bonjour(Good morning)" he replied indifferently, but something in his voice betrayed him. Was it sadness? "En fait, je te cherchais. Pouvons-nous parler?(Actually, I was looking for you. Can we talk?)" He asked her thoughtfully.

"Bien sûr...(Of course...)" Penny replied hesitantly as she followed her captain to his office.

His strange behaviour made her a little anxious. For the first time she saw him so serious, but at the same time also not so confident anymore.
