"Get away from me." I said as Laura came closer. "Carly... It's still me. I dont wanna hurt you, I care about you too much. And this is just as much of a shock to me as it is to you so please dont stand there and make me feel worse about this." She replied as she ran her hand through her hair. I just sighed with relief and slowly pulled her into a hug. "It's okay... You'll be okay." I whispered. "So... You didnt know you were a vampire till now?" I asked confused. "Why would I even make the assumption? Vampires dont exist! Or so I thought.." Laura replied. Just then Jen came running in the room, "guys! You need to come see this!" She said and with that she ran out of the room. I just slowly looked at Laura but quickly followed after her, Laura following. Once we got to the roof we saw Justin, Luke, and Blake taking pictures on their phones of what they saw. "Jesus.." I muttered. "This must be where the fire was.." Blake said. "But you said there was no fire.." Luke said as he turned to Laura. "That's what my dad said.." She replied as we continued to observe the black, burned surroundings. "Hey.. Who's Ambrose A. ?" Justin asked as he held up a dog tag with that name engraved in it. "T-that's my dad!" Laura said as she ran up to Justin and grabbed the dogtag from him. "Uh... Why would your dad's dogtag be here?" Blake asked. I just looked at Laura, probably realizing the same exact thing she did. So I pulled her aside by the arm so only she could hear me. "Laura... If you're a vampire, your dad must be one too. And maybe he was the boy..." I whispered. "No, that's impossible. He told me he didnt go to school anywhere near here. He said he only moved out here after my mom died, when I was one." Laura replied. "He probably lied... Hey, have you ever seen a picture of your mom?" I asked, trying to come up with a theory in my head. "N-no... To be honest I dont even remember ever meeting her. But I was so young when she died so.." She responded. "Maybe you never did meet your mom..." I thought as I whispered it to her, still making sure the others couldnt hear us. "But I had to have.... Why would my dad lie about my mom? Or his life before that?" Laura asked, starting to question her own answers. "I dont know.... But we're gonna find out." I said as I took the dogtag from Laura's hands and observed it. I flipped it to the back and it was all crusted and dirty. I used my shirt to remove some of the dirt, which slowly but surely uncovered the date that was on the back... 1965. The same year that Mrs. Stefan said the suicide took place. "You may want to hold on to this for a while... We're probably gonna need it." I said as I placed it back into Laura's hands. Just as she took the dogtag back, we were interrupted by Luke when he walked over to see if everything was okay. "Yeah, we're fine..." I said as I walked over to where the others were, leaving Laura and Luke alone. "So.." Luke began. Laura just looked at him, waiting for him to say something else. Instead of him saying anything, he just leaned in and kissed Laura, but Laura quickly pulled away. "I-I cant. I'm sorry. I was just dumped... By my girlfriend who i've been seeing for half a year and it still really hurts. But you're really sweet and I'm sorry if--" Laura began but Luke cut her off. I dont think she realized she accidentally came out to him till she saw his facial expression. "You're gay?!" He asked, a little louder than he should have. Causing Blake, Jen, and the others to turn their attention to them, shocked. Laura flushed red and looked down. "No... I'm bi..." Laura answered. Luke looked disgusted. "I cant. I cant even look at you. That's gross... You sleep with girls and still expect to get dick? That's slutty." Luke said. That's when I stepped in. I walked over to them when I noticed a tear fall from Laura's eyes. "Luke, hey. Stop. That's enough." I said. Luke just turned to me. "Is it? Because our little friend is a homo and I just kissed her... Gross." He replied. "Look, it's not gross. After she kissed me and I turned her down I felt bad cause I thought I hurt her, but she found a girl she really loved. And Kayla literally just broke her heart and you're not making anything better by--" I began but once again, Luke was too quick to interrupt. "Wait... You knew?! You knew she was gay and you didnt tell me? And aside from that, she KISSED you, and you stayed friends with her?" Luke said. Before I could reply, he turned back to Laura who was staring at the ground. "If you ever turn my best friend gay.... You will regret it. Carly is no freak. Dont make her one." Luke said, in the most rude tone i've ever heard him use. "Luke, what the hell is your problem? You cant "turn" someone gay. You either are or you arent. Or in some cases, you're both. Just like Laura. And there is nothing wrong with her. She's amazing. She's a great friend and she's always there for me. So excuse the shit outta me if I didnt let one little kiss ruin that. She understands that I'm straight. But even if I wasnt, you should be supportive of us. We're your friends. I mean, we're young. I'm only 16, Luke. I'm still finding myself. Who knows." I said as I just sighed, and after taking a quick glimpse at Laura, I stormed off back to the car. Jen went over to Luke and Laura, over hearing the whole conversation. "Nice one Luke. You know, Carly is your best friend. I'm so dissapointed in you." Jen said as she rolled her eyes and chased after Carly. Once she got outside she made her way around the dead cow and back to the car, as she sat in the passengers seat, since Carly was in the drivers seat with her head on the wheel. "Dont." Carly said as she slowly lifted her head up to look at Jen. "I wasnt gonna go there." Jen said as she held her hands up in defense. "But..." Jen began, slightly contradicting what she said. Carly just sighed. "But what?" Jen just continued. "Do you? Have feelings for Laura, I mean. Because if you do, and you're pulling that whole "I'm a popular cheerleader and cant ruin my reputation by dating another girl" just stop. Cause Laura is also a cheerleader, and she dated a girl. And I'm one of your best friends. So dont think I never noticed the way you look at her." Jen said. "Jen... You dont even get it. I'm not gay. I'm not... Gay." Carly repeated. "Who are you trying to convince?" Jen asked. I just sighed. "No one. It's the truth. I'm not." Carly replied. Jen just sighed. "Look, I support you no matter what. And After over hearing what I just heard up there, I think that maybe after that kiss.... You know, between you and Laura, you started to get feelings for her. And you cant deny it." Jen began. "Jen, stop. I dont like--" Carly began but Jen continued. "Laura? You dont like her? Really? So answer this for me.... Why did you join cheer?" She asked. Carly just glanced at her. "Because I like it.." She replied. "Oh cut the crap. You hate cheer. I hear you complain to Luke all the time about how much you hate it. I'm surprised he didnt question you before I did." Jen said. Carly just opened the car door, got out and slammed it. Jen sighed but shortly got out of the car as well. "Carly... It's okay to love her!" Jen said as she circled around the car so she could look at Carly in the eye. "I dont!" She yelled. "Then why do you cheer?" Jen asked. "I need the extra recognition on my college application..." Carly said. "So Laura being on the cheer team had nothing to do with you joining?" Jen asked. Carly just looked down, and Jen continued. "You know what I think? I think that she kissed you and you liked it but wanted to spend more time with her without her knowing why and without it being more than it was so you wouldnt be judged. So you did that in the best way possible. You became a cheerleader. You became instantley popular and not only that but you got to spend time with Laura every single day after school. And I think you're too afraid to deal with your feelings, so you smoke and only hangout with Luke mostly and other guys so you dont have to deal with the harsh reality that you're gay!" Jen practically yelled. That's when Carly broke. She began to cry on Jen's shoulder. Shocked, Jen held her tight. "Hey, it's okay. I wont tell. But you shouldnt bottle this up. Look at me." Jen said as she got Carly to look at her. "She kissed you first. You turned her down. She got a girlfriend.... Now they are over. This is your chance. Everything happens for a reason. Ever think that the reason for her breakup is you?" Jen asked. "But Kayla broke up with her." Carly replied. "And you believe that? Think about it. She kissed you, before she even talked to Kayla. And then after 6 months she tells you, and only you, that Kayla dumped her? Clearly she just wanted attention from you." Jen said. "I dont know.." Carly replied. "What if I told you I know for a fact that Laura dumped Kayla..." Jen said as she pulled out her phone and went to Kayla's facebook profile. Her latest status read: Heartbroken. 6 months. I put 6 months into this and this is what I get?
I just looked at Jen confused. "She did lie... Why though?" Carly asked confused. "Isnt it obvious? She clearly only dated Kayla after she kissed you to prove to you that "she didnt like you" so you two could still be friends without it being weird for you. She probably couldnt take dating someone she didnt really love anymore so ended it and made it seem like she dumped her when she told you so it would look like she actually cared... But she doesnt. Cause she loves you. Trust me, Im like an expert when in comes to love. And she looks at you the same way Justin looks at me. And you look at her the same way Ashley from south of nowhere looks at Spencer..." Jen added the last part with a little chuckle. "I knew you secretly watched that show. Hey, maybe you're the gay one." Carly joked with a laugh. Jen rolled her eyes jokingly. "But seriously. Dont let Luke get to you. He's always been homophobic. But he loves you. So he'll come around once you do, with yourself, I mean." Jen added. Carly just shrugged "I dont know." She replied. Just then, Blake came running out of the building with Justin. "You guys may want to come inside... Now! Laura is attacking Luke!" Blake yelled. I noticed he had blood on his hands and shirt which meant he clearly tried to break up the fight. "Shit." I mumbled to myself, but apparently not low enough. "What?" Jen asked concerned. "Laura is a vampire..." I said with worry in my voice. "Totally called the whole vampire thing." Blake added. "Not now blake, this is serious. She could turn him!" I said as I started to run inside the building, the others ran after as well. Once we got up there I pulled Laura off of Luke. "hey, Laura, relax!" I yelled as I got Laura to look at me. She had blood all over her face and her fangs were out. Luke was on the floor holding his neck. Justin got on his knees and moved Luke's hands, revealing a serious bite. "Y-you bit him?" I said to Laura with a dissapointed tone in my voice. "He was being a dick! I cant help who I love!" Laura yelled but the anger turned into sadness as she began to cry on me. I just held her and tried to relax her so her fangs would go away. As complicated as this may be for everyone.... I think I'm in love with a vampire. In fact, I know it. But what would Luke think if I dated her? Would he stop being my best friend? Or even worse... He's gonna turn into a vampire any time now... How will all of this affect our future relationship? And we still have the mystery to solve about the school. Will we even be able to do it when Luke and Laura cant even get along? Will I be able to do it, without acting upon my feelings for Laura? These questions circulated in my head as I continued to calm Laura who was still crying in my arms. I'm so fucked.
