Chapter 40 - A Declining Supremacy
Unable to stomach the anxious roll in his stomach at his thoughts, Ezekiel pressed in with a hiss. "Explain what happened? What does all of this have to do with what's happening now?"
Bonsa took a breath, gathered herself, and spoke. "The connection between the Great Loss and everything else will become clear, but I want to be honest. I much like the strange pup...am just a curious story reader." She said, indicating Erin with her eyes.
"The truth of the Great Loss...well no one knows anymore, aside from the Sky Gods and for almost 5000 years they have NEVER openly told anyone about why the Great Loss actually happened or what truly caused it to begin with."
"What!?" Ezekiel couldn't help but snarl annoyed. "Why don't you know! Why haven't the Dragons explained it to you!?"
"Hey!" Lander shifted.
Easy Ezekiel....Easy....
Came a sudden call from Lander in that moment cutting across Ezekiel's mind. The Reaver gripped his jaw and tried to speak in a less agitated fashion.
"I don't understand why you were left in the dark by the Dragons Elder."
Bonsa glanced at Lander then Ezekiel. Her lips twitched, then she shook her head and tossed up a hand."This may shock you but, in any army, or organization there are levels of power and information and only the ones in certain levels are given access to information. For example, the King and Queen Leopard may not choose to share any and all they know with the Clansmen below them for one reason or another and none of the Clansmen can demand they do so either." Bonsa turned and took a small pace to the left of the room obviously a little restless, but her eyes remained on Ezekiel.
"The Dragons are our Masters, we server then as Elders and do not stand as equal to them Gaudian...and so you must understand that there are things they may choose to withhold, and beyond all of that there is the reality that the Great Loss is something deeply personal to the Sky Gods...the significance of the Great Loss Event cannot be ignored, because the Loss they too suffered was unspeakable."
"What did the Dragons lose?" Ezekiel's fists tightened and he leaned in somewhat. His heart unbalanced as he heard these words and all he could think about was Brandon crying and clutching at is head.
Back when they had been kidnapped by Hovel and Brandon was struggling to piece together all of his conflicting memories and feelings. He had been so torn up and confused and Ezekiel had kept pressing him to think more about his past , pressing him to think on painful unthinkable realities.
STOP!
Brandon had cried at Ezekiel, his green eyes so lost and fragile. The crack of confusion in his voice had made Ezekiel want to soothe him, but at that moment the Druid was just a ball of raw emotions. He had shouted as he held his head and tears gathered on his bruised face.
None of this makes sense! I don't know who I am Ezekiel! I NEVER DID. Every name I've ever had was given to me! EVERYTHING I have ever known came from pages in books. Am I the child of Sun and Moon? Am I Jacobs and Nora's Lil One? Am I a monster? Am I a tainted child of some evil prophecy? Am I brother? Am I lover? Am I Friend? Betrayer perhaps? Or maybe I'm just a tool!? GOD! I wish I had the answers! I do!
"Please you have to know more Elder...I need to know more." Ezekiel clutched his hands hard as the memory of his Mates bewilderment and sorrow cut him so much deeper now that he realized that the Druids past was more tangled then either of them could have foreseen.
Bonsa stopped walking and put a hand to her head. Ezekiel caught a small grimace as she blinked hard, but she hid the move as she swiped at her forehead as if wiping away an errant lock of hair.
