Hadrian was glad he hadn't accepted the offer of an interview Skeeter had given, because the article she wrote about the tournament and champions was horrid in its own way. She'd dedicated a whole page on Hadrian and his 'life story' which was just an over dramatized and quite fake version of the events of his parents' deaths and his status as Pendragon's heir with some 'interviews' from students he'd never even talked to. The names of the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang champions (misspelled) had then been squashed into the last line of the article, and Cedric hadn't been mentioned at all. It was humiliating on a whole other level. Giving this stupid article to his Uncles, they'd taken it to the Daily Prophet and the School Board, and Rita Skeeter was hence forth banned from going anywhere near Hogwarts school.
The days had then passed in the same routine as the first task grew nearer. Hadrian would wake up, eat, go to classes, eat, go to the clubs he'd registered for, and then he'd train with Cedric and his friends.
It was during one of these sessions, on the Saturday before the task. While everyone was enjoying a day out at Hogsmeade, the friend group stayed at school to make sure Hadrian and Cedric were prepared (to take down the other two schools). As they started going through their offensive spells list with Libra and Kane, Ron barged into the room with Ginny on his heels.
"Guys! Listen up!" Ginny called out, and everyone looked to the red-headed duo, waiting for them to continue.
"We just found out what the First Task is! And that the other two champions probably know about it." Ron burst out in excitement. Cedric and Hadrian stared at them in shock before they beckoned them to continue.
"So we got a letter from Charlie today that said he was actually at Hogwarts. He asked us to meet and showed us what the task will be about, and it was scary!"
"There're dragons, aren't there?" Draco said in a deadpan tone, and the two groaned in annoyance.
"Oh come one Draco! You could've let us do the dramatic reveal!" Ginny complained, sticking her tongue out at the blond very maturely. Draco returned the favour by doing the same, then they noticed that reactions to the words weren't what they expected. Cedric had started freaking out, and Hadrian was pacing back and forth.
"Kane...would it be possible for you to just do it?" Hadrian asked his best friend, eyes shining pleadingly.
"I would if I could. But I truly can't." Kane said sympathetically, patting Hadrian on the back as he plopped down on the couch beside the other boy.
"Why Kane though?" Elena asked curiously.
"He's the descendant of the Dragon Lord. He'd be a master at this."
"Oh right..."
"Wait," Cedric interrupted, "You're the descendant of Merlin?!"
"Yup." Kane said, popping the 'p' at the end, "I forgot we hadn't told you."
"Uh, yeah..." Cedric also sat down to absorb everything. Dragons. Merlin. What was his life now?
"Anyways..." Hermione said slowly, "could you give us more details?"
"Yeah. There are four dragons for each champions, and you'll have to get passed it to retrieve something, but Charlie didn't know what. Also, bad bad news." Ron explained as he sat next to his girlfriend.
"What now?" Hadrian groaned out.
"They're nesting mothers." Ginny said quietly, bowing her head a little as she heard Cedric and Hadrian curse out loud at the thought. It was a well-known fact that nesting mother dragons were much more dangerous than normal dragons.
