It had been hours since the departure of Sukuna and Uraume, yet the barrier that stood between Gojo and his freedom stood as strong as ever. The translucent wall crackled with energy, and even with his blindfold on, Gojo could tell that getting rid of it wouldn't be an easy task.
Putting up a strong curtain came with its normal drawbacks, but at this point Gojo was sure that none of his students even think he's alive, so there's no way they could break him out. Usually, a quick domain expansion would do the trick, but this was the King of Curses that he was facing. The previous fight between them had already proved Gojo was the weaker one, and he wasn't about to waste his precious cursed energy on something he knew wouldn't break the curtain.
For now, all Gojo could do was keep exploring the ins and outs of Sukuna's estate, which seemed to be located somewhere deep inside the forests of Mt Senzan. If he was correct, they would be at least a 5 hour drive away from Shibuya. This puts Gojo at a huge disadvantage, but there was nothing he could do. Even if he got out, there would no doubt be huge setbacks to their plans to take down Sukuna and Kenjaku. Hopefully, Yuuji and the others could hold out against Kenjaku whilst he was dealing with Sukuna. After all, he was the closest thing the curse could call a worthy opponent, or so he had hoped. However, from the way things turned out he was really nowhere near Sukuna's level.
Gojo had been called many things in life, but only once had he been called mediocre by the insufferable curse.
Just recalling the memory made him laugh, like a bittersweet reality check that finally broke the illusion surrounding the influence of the Six-Eyes clan. He would never admit it, but the fight between Sukuna had been an eye-opening experience to say the least. Gojo had finally met his equal. Every second spent on the battlefield came with an exhilarating feeling that clouded his mind, running through his blood. Adrenaline had been pumped through his body non-stop for hours on end, but in the moment all Gojo wanted was for Sukuna to enjoy the feeling with him.
He wanted to curse to finally feel like he wasn't alone, to tell him about the loneliness that came with their unmatched strength, and finally, about the love hidden behind all that power. But deep down, Gojo knew he couldn't just go rogue. Like every other jujutsu sorcerer, he was kept on a leash, one that choked and wore him down over the years. The years had been tough, with him getting sent to do all the dirty work for the higher ups. It was what broke Geto in the end.
Megumi had been the only one that kept him sane over the years, just after the loss of his best friend. Gojo had vowed that he would take care of the raven haired boy, to protect him at all costs and let no harm come to him. Yet, the appearance of Sukuna had derailed any sort of happiness that kid could've had before he was going to be pushed into the world of jujutsu sorcerers. Gojo should be wanting to end him for making Megumi suffer.
And yet, his reluctance to sever ties with the curse was still there.
It was a sickening thought, as Gojo had no desire to exorcise the curse, despite all of the havoc he created. Sukuna was someone that understood him, someone that didn't make him feel so alone. Suguru had been that person, but at the end of the day it was Gojo's existence that caused him to spiral. There isn't a day that goes by without Gojo punishing himself for all the lives that he had ruined, all the people that he could've saved. Isolation would be his only retribution. But he couldn't let go of Sukuna so soon. Just yet. Not when the self inflicted loneliness was finally gone.
Gojo furrowed his brows, realizing where his train of thought had led to. Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks. While going through a mental crisis, he had unknowingly stumbled across what seemed like a trapdoor near the koi pond outside. He would've missed it if it hadn't been for his Six-Eyes. The sorcerer trailed back to where he came from, stepping back so he could see the full picture.
At first glance, the courtyard seemed to be normal, nothing out of the ordinary. But the cursed energy that pooled from the edge of the koi pond was greater than anything Gojo had ever seen before. It was clumsily veiled, like the person behind it didn't bother trying to hide their tracks. When Gojo stepped closer, he could clearly see the outline of the trapdoor hidden beneath patches of grass and stray leaves.
He brushed the dust off the surface, but as the sorcerer's fingers came into contact with the handle, an electric wave zapped him. Gojo cursed, but kept a firm grip. Using slithers of cursed energy, he slowly eased the door open just a crack. A putrid smell flooded his senses, and Gojo fought hard to stop the bile from clawing up his throat. The scent reminded him of decomposed bodies, but somehow it was different. It brought his mind back to when he first saw one of Sukuna's waxed fingers, where the same rancid smell could be found. Curiosity burned inside him, but he knew now wasn't the time to try to meddle with whatever was in the secret passageway.
Rays of sunlight poured into the horizon, bleeding into the remains of the night sky. It wouldn't be long before Sukuna returned. Gojo took one last look at his surroundings, memorizing the place of the trapdoor, and closed it shut. During Sukuna's next trip, he'll go investigate it further.
For now, Gojo settled for a nice nap after staying awake all night. Maybe he'll even ask the curse to bring him some food later.
