Keaton:
Keaton and Will returned to class after a quick shower to wash off the sweat and mud from rugby. Finding the rest of the students already seated when they arrived. The teacher looked up from their desk when they walked in but said nothing, merely handed them each a textbook before returning to the stack of papers on their desk.
Keaton gazed off, ignoring the exercise before him; it was not like he needed the practice anyway. He looked over at Ada who was deep in thought, chewing on her lip as she clicked her pen. The sound irritated him.
Flipping through his book to an empty page he tore out a piece and hastily scrawled" Stop that stupid clicking". Crumpling it up, he threw it at her. She looked down as it hit her chair's leg, she leaned down and picked it up. Ada read his message and scowled, clicking her pen down again and making deliberate eye contact, she flipped the paper over and wrote something down before tossing it back to him.
Before he could pick it up, the teacher yelled "Who threw that?!" Ada blanched, "You!" he said pointing at Ada, "Detention!"
There were quiet snickers from the students, quickly silenced by a glare from the teacher. Keaton shot Ada a smirk, goading her. She gave him a sour look, crossing her arms with a huff.
His phone rang in his back pocket and he picked it up; it was his father. Groaning, he stood up and headed for the door, ignoring the teacher's protests, "Hello," he answered when he was in the corridor.
"Why weren't you in class?" demanded his father sternly.
"What?" Keaton said, rubbing the back of his neck, confused.
"You were marked absent in History class" His father yelled, breaking the sound barrier.
"I had Rugby practice," Keaton replied, sighing
"You and your rugby, you're almost an adult, Keaton. You can't be wasting your time with such frivolous activities," Said his father tersely
"You've mentioned," he said coldly
"Don't use that tone with me, boy!" Yelled his father, "I have to get to a meeting. Don't let me hear anything else about you skipping class." He hung up. "Typical," thought Keaton, heading back into class.
"What was that about?" Asked the teacher as he passed his desk.
"My father just wanted to check up on me," replied Keaton.
Mr Green nodded not wanting to incur his father's wrath.
"What did he want, mate?" Whispered Will when Keaton sat back down.
"Nothing just his usual crap," Keaton answered, running a hand through his messy black curls, fluffing them up.
Ada:
Ada watched as he entered the classroom for the second time. "What a jerk" she thought, "How come rules don't apply to him?".
Claire nudged her shoulder, whispering "Pay attention!" and pointing at the teacher. The class was almost over as the teacher handed out their homework. Claire stared at the homework, blank-faced.
Will came over to their table, smiling widely, an arm slung over Keaton's broad shoulders, dragging him along "Hey, you guys wanna study with us in the library?"
Ada was busy packing her things as Claire responded. "Sure, I seriously need the help"
Ada looked up "Is he going to be there?" Ada whispered into Claire's ear, glaring at Keaton.
Claire nodded "Count me out then" Ada said, maintaining eye contact with Keaton. "Oh come on, Ada," Claire nagged, "Please? Just this once? I need all the help I can get." Claire begged as Ada shook her head. "For me?" She continued, taking her hand and dragging her towards the door.
Ada sighed in defeat as she followed Claire out into the corridor giving a disdainful glare to Keaton as she passed him.
