"Oh my word!!" I yelp as I see Boyd and Erica strung up, their hands bound by electrical wires hanging from the ceiling, duct tape covering their mouths. Someone's blood is on the floor. Tears well up in Erica's eyes.
I rush past them and stand in front of the electrical board on the wall, flicking the "W.C." switch off. Any guesses as to what W.C. stands for? And no, it's not "water closet". It stands for Werewolf Circuit.
The Argents have a designated electrical circuit for electrocuting werewolves. Barbaric, I know. The lights in the basement don't go off because this switch is for a specific electric current. Disgusting.
Now that the ropes aren't electrified, I untie Erica's hands. She rips the tape off her mouth and clasps me tightly. "I'm so, so sorry," I whisper into her thick blonde hair. She blinks furiously, her head tilted up at the ceiling.
I untie Boyd. He pats my shoulder with a weak smile.
"I would offer for you both to stay here, but it's too dangerous," I utter. "I don't think Gerard or anyone else knows about the railway cab yet, so it might be safe to go back there..."
I escort them to the front door and hold it open for them. "Thanks, Nylah. We owe you one," Boyd responds.
"No, you don't." I sigh. "This is all twisted, I'm so sorry for what you've been through. Just get back safely, okay?" They both nod and leave. I shut the door and exhale a shaky breath.
Abruptly, I remember Gerard said "it's starting" to Allison. Ominous. I have to stop him from doing whatever he's planning.
I sprint upstairs. Hastily, I exchange my grey crewneck for a fitted black tank top. I tug on converse, grab a couple knives, my phone, my bow and a sheath of arrows, and car keys.
I jump into my car and pinpoint dad and Allison's location with GPS... huh. Weird. They're in the same place — the abandoned warehouse.
I tuck my knives into the quiver and tuck my phone into the side pocket of my leggings.
I hurtle to the warehouse — a three minute drive because I'm breaking every road rule possible. I park the car, leap out, and quietly creep inside.
I stand in the large doorway, observing Gerard, dad, Allison, Derek, Isaac, and Scott arguing. I grip my bow tighter and adjust the strap of my quiver, which runs diagonally across my chest.
The Kanima springs to life and flings Derek across the warehouse. He lands with a heavy thud and a grunt. Oh dear.
I reach back and pull out an arrow, positioning it on the taut string. I pull the string back, my hand hovering next to my cheek, and take aim for the Kanima, which is crouching still, swishing its tail angrily. It's a relief that Jackson isn't dead... I just hope this doesn't hurt him.
I release the string with a soft sigh and watch on as my arrow pierces the Kanima's shoulder. It doesn't sink deeply... that's how thick its skin is. It squeals and jumps back, yanking the arrow out. The arrow clatters to the ground before lying still.
Everyone's attention snaps on me. I take another arrow out of the quiver and position it on the string, just in case.
"Granddaughter, how nice of you to join us," Gerard announces loudly. Isaac's eyes widen as he shakes his head. He doesn't want me here.
