I'm really tired the next day — I got to bed at 11 last night (it doesn't sound late, but for me, 10 o'clock is the cut off time... if I go over it, I can barely function the next morning) because I was studying the bestiary.

I plugged the USB into my laptop, opened the file, and scanned the separate texts into Google translate.

Under separate headings for each creature, I copied the info and pasted the pictures into a Word doc on my laptop... making an English version of the bestiary for my own future use.

Some of the descriptions and images were honestly so gory and disturbing, but I set my discomfort aside and ploughed my way through.

I only got halfway through, despite my haste. Time is not our friend right now — people are being murdered by this unknown creature.

I found no information that fits with what I know about it:

—> paralytic venom in its claws
—> fast
—> strong
—> perhaps only functions as a killer (?)
—> immobilises its prey within seconds

Right now, I'm getting ready for the lacrosse match later. "Dad!!" I call from the hallway.

"Allison and I are coming to watch you today, Nylah," Gerard announces, emerging from the lounge, "Your mother and father are... investigating."

"Oh." I smile, hitching my bag further onto my shoulder, "Have you watched lacrosse before?"

"No," he responds, "But I'm sure Allison will answer the questions I have..."

At that moment, Allison walks down the stairs. Gerard jangles his car keys. "Ready? Let's go."

There's more people at this match than I've seen before. I split off from Gerard and Allison after I thank Gerard for the car ride.

In our usual team pep-talk, Coach is distracted, continually looking over at the other team. "Come on, is that thing even a teenager? I wanna see a birth certificate!"

I look over to who he's talking about. That guy is so freaking tall, what the heck.

"Who or what is that genetic experiment gone wrong?" Coach inquires.

"Eddie Abramovitz, Coach," Stiles replies, "They call him the 'Abomination'."

"Oh, that's cute," Coach retorts, "Real cute." I laugh. "Okay... try not die out there, I guess."

"Great, we're all bloody inspired," I mutter as we clang our helmets together.

"Nice reference," Matt comments from beside me, smiling a bit too widely.

"You got that?" I inquire excitedly, brushing off my instinct that's telling me he's a bit... off, "Finally! Someone with good taste!"

"You know it, Nylah." He winks before strolling away. I frown. What the nuggets was that about?

We all assume our positions. I face some blonde-haired, green-eyed guy who introduces himself as Cody. He eyes me up and down. "Nylah," I respond with an forced smile.
