Elena and Nyx snuck out from the palace whilst the Winter Solstice Ball continued on. While the world continued on as nothing had changed, Elena's world had changed entirely. She had a mate. A mate that loved her. A mate that chose her above everything else. A mate who would follow her anywhere across time and space. While they hadn't officially accepted the mating bond, she could feel the tug of the thread tying them together.

Elena and Nyx flew to the outskirts of the Winter Court and found a cozy cave up in the mountains. The nearest village could barely be seen by the distant glow of lights.

The pair continued acquainting themselves throughout the night. Elena couldn't get enough of him and he seemed just as eager.

As the sun began to rise, Elena held a wall of heat at the cave opening. She laid sprawled across Nyx's chest as he wrapped a wing around her. Nyx ran his hand through her hair. "I never want to leave this cave," Nyx said as he pressed a kiss to her forehead.

"I don't either, but we have the meeting with the High Lords tonight," Elena rolled over onto her back laying her head in the crook of Nyx's shoulder.

"Don't remind me," Nyx groaned. He wrapped his arms around her. "They don't need us." Elena laughed against his chest. "I'm glad you agree." Nyx said as he his lips found hers. "I want this all to be over. I want to start a life with you- a real life not one barricaded by war."

"And what would we do first?" Elena asked.

"Well first, I want to see your home. I want to see Terrasen." Nyx said as he looked up at the crystals hanging from the cave. "I want to see Orynth and the Staghorns and the Oakwald Forest."

"And then?" Elena asked as she trailed her fingers across his chest.

"And then I want to see it all. All of it with you. Travel the universe and see what's out there among the cosmos." Nyx looked down at her, his eyes shining with love- love for her.

It made all of it worth it. The months she spent chained and whipped. The years she spent going through the motions. She felt so lost for so long, but it all led here- it all led him.

"I would do it all again if it meant I found you," she said quietly. "I would relive every second as long as it meant we could spend this moment together."

"You don't have to Princess," he said as kissed her forehead. "You won't ever go back there. I won't let you."

"Do you want to see them? See the worlds that are out there?" Elena asked as she moved to stand up. Nyx tried to pull her back down, pull her back to him, but she just laughed and slipped Nyx's shirt over her head. She formed a blade of ice in her right hand and sliced it across her left palm. She dipped her finger in the pool of blood and began to paint the wyrdmarks on the wall of the cave. Nyx rose and stepped into his undershorts wrapping his arms around her shoulders and resting his chin on the top of her head.

The light flashed and the vision before them began to appear. "I've never seen anything like this one before." Elena said. The portal showed a huge city. The buildings were so tell they scraped the clouds. There were creatures with long feathered wings who flew across the sky. A flowing river cut through the towering city in the shape of a crescent.

"This is real?" Nyx asked. Elena nodded her head. This world was unlike anything she'd ever seen before. This world was much more advanced than either of theirs. Their city was designed for convenience it seemed. There were roads cut out in every direction. Their people traveled in strange contraptions. There were large flashing lights spread throughout the city. The world seemed teeming with life and variety of citizens, more than just fae and humans.
