Once John B returnedwith the necessary scuba gear, we all set out on the marsh, ready to get the job done. The sun will be setting soon, so we're in a race against the clock, wanting to complete our task while we still have daylight on our side. I suggested that we wait until tomorrow to do it at a more reasonable time so we don't have to rush, but both JJ and John B are too impatient for that.
It's a bit of a lengthy ride out to where we originally discovered the wreck. Pope's driving, while the other two boys stand on either side of him, the trio debating which anime characters are the hottest.
Dorks.
I'm sitting on the bow beside Kie, tuning the boys out as I fix my gaze on the water. Anime has never really been my thing. I can't focus because the audio doesn't match the way their mouths move. I find it distracting.
"Boys are so weird," I groan.
"Tell me about it," Kie giggles. "Why do we associate with them again?"
"Well, I have blood ties to one, so as much as I'd like to, I can't get rid of his ass," I joke. "And then Pope is smart as shit, so we should probably keep him around. But the other one? Yeah, I don't even know," I laugh as I watch JJ act out a fight scene from one of his favorite anime shows. But he soon catches me staring and sends me a wink, causing my cheeks to heat up.
"You know he likes you, right?" Kie speaks softly enough that only I can hear her above the wind.
I roll my eyes as I shoot her a look. "JJ does not like me."
"Oh, so you're blind now?"
"No," I giggle, shoving the girl's shoulder. "I see what you see, but he flirts with every girl like that."
"See, that's where you're wrong." Kie shakes her head. "He flirts with every girl, but not like that. Not the way he flirts with you. He definitely likes you."
