The sun was setting over the fields of [redacted], the mid windy breeze flowing over his face as he stared off into space. His mood was gloomy, but he didn't know why or how. He just felt... down. He didn't know why, he had everything he could've asked for. A nice home, food to eat, warm clothes, everything. What was wrong with him? The answer came to him as soon as he asked himself the question; nothing. It wasn't anything in particular that made him feel this way.
Sure, there were many little things, but they weren't the source of his bad feelings. He'd felt like this for weeks now, no matter how much he tried to deny it or force it away, the feeling wouldn't go away. To be honest, he had even stopped caring about trying to change how he felt. Why bother when it seemed like no one else seemed to? At first, he thought he must have finally gone insane. But after seeing the rest of his friends get along just fine and live happily, he started to think maybe he wasn't the only one who had these problems.
The problem was he couldn't bring himself to talk to any of them about it. After all, how do you tell your friends if they're so used to you... being like this. Slash was always known as the stoic of the group, with his serious tone and demeanor. So how could he expect them to react well to him saying that something is bothering him? That their friend is unhappy and doesn't know why. He didn't even realize by the time that he opened his eyes. The sun had already gone down. He was about to start heading back home when he heard someone calling for him. Turning around, he noticed a pink and green curl of fluff, staring right back at him.
"Slash!? What are you doing here?" The anseptadog asked as she continued walking towards him. "Err... I should be asking you the same thing.." he breathed out in response. He watched as Calimelon walked over and was now leaning against the tree near him. "Well.. I was going out on a little late night walk, I didn't know you were going to be here." She said to him, staring up into his eyes. "And you found me anyways?" Slash said chuckled nervously, wondering how she had managed to find him. "Yeah..." she giggled softly. "Well.. uhm.. I hope I didn't interrupt anything!"
Slash paused, trying to think of a response. "Oh, uh-no you're not! I was just... uhh.. watching the sunset." He replies before turning his gaze into the now starry night sky. She gave him a small nod. "Yeah, The stars are really pretty tonight, don't you think?" She asked, staring up into the dark sky herself. Slash nodded again, looking back down at her. She tilted her head slightly. "Are you okay? You seem upset about something.."
When Slash turned his gaze back to her, he was surprised to see her expression full of concern and worry. For some reason, this touched him more than he would've expected. "Oh, I'm fine." he quickly assured her, wanting to put off the subject. But it was too late, she was already looking at him. He looked away awkwardly, but quickly brought his gaze back to hers. "It's nothing, really. Just been having some late night thoughts I guess." he replied. He hoped that she wouldn't notice how hard it was for him to say that. And sure enough, she did. He saw the sparkle in her eyes fade, replaced by a saddened look.
"Do you want to talk about it? I mean, I'm really good at listening!" She offered him, still standing where she was. He nodded silently, not trusting himself to speak. She reached her paw out to him, gently taking hold of his hand. He let out a shaky breath as he took it into his own, unsure of what was happening between them. It was a feeling he didn't want to let go of, yet one he knew he shouldn't. There was an electricity running through him, yet he didn't feel anything other than calmness from her.
Yet he couldn't stop himself from wanting to be closer to her. Her soft touch sent chills all over his body. "Thank you, Cali." He muttered, not looking up from her paw. She smiled sweetly at him. "No problem, Slash.." She started, giving him another gentle squeeze. She held his hand tight, allowing their paws to rest together. Then without warning, she moved her paw closer to his face, gently stroking his cheek with it. A small smile played on her lips as she watched his face light up. With every stroke, he grew more entranced by her.
