Mrs. Jeon moved with practiced efficiency in the kitchen, preparing fresh strawberry juice and setting a perfectly iced cake on a glass tray. Jungkook hovered nearby, offering clumsy assistance. His nervous hands betrayed his excitement as he sliced strawberries unevenly, earning an amused glance from his mother.
“Are you going to cut the strawberries or destroy them?” she teased, shaking her head.
Jungkook mumbled an apology, but before he could recover, the doorbell rang. The sound echoed through the quiet house, and Jungkook froze mid-motion. His heart began to race, each beat loud in his ears. He set the knife down and wiped his palms on his pants, realizing they’d grown sweaty.
“Go open the door, Koo,” Mrs. Jeon said casually, not even glancing up from her task.
Jungkook’s eyes widened, and he took a step back. “Me? No… I can’t.”
“Why not?” she asked, her tone light but teasing.
“I… I don’t know. What if I mess up? Or—what if it’s not him?” he stammered, fumbling for an excuse.
Mrs. Jeon turned to look at him, arching an eyebrow. “Jungkook, you’ve been counting the minutes until he got here. Don’t keep him waiting now. Go.”
“But, Eomma—”
“No buts. Go,” she said with a mock sternness that left no room for argument.
