During lunch break, I'm going to the cafeteria to get some food. I'm so tired. We had spanish class and after that physics, which I hate. I take my food and sit at a free table. I am looking around for Olivia, my best friend since I moved here when a plate is being put before the seat in front of me. The moment I look up to see who it is I regret doing that. Nathan. Of course. Who else would sit with me. I mean, the whole school knows that that's Liv's place.
"What's that supposed to be? ", I ask him slightly confused.
" Well, what does it look like? I need to ask you something. Care to listen? Yes? Thank you. "
For a while I just stare at him, not able to speak. What was that right now?
"Well, then no answer I suppose. Anyway, I'll start then, yes? Why did you take all these languages as lessons? I mean, you could have chosen science as well, couldn't you? But you chose none of these. Everybody else chose science over spanish but you. What's the reason? Second, what do you remember from the age of one to five?", he asks looking at me. How does he know all that about me? And what's so special about those years?
"Correct me if I'm mistaken, but you are the guy I just met by accident in a forest while a demon was trying to kill me, right? Then you somehow knew my name and now you know about my classes and ask me stuff about my private life as if you know me. And now seriously: you suppose that I have memories from when I was a child, even though almost no one has clear memories about that time. So, what makes you think I'm different from all those people? And why the hell should I tell you? I barely know your name."
After that he looks at me for a while. I wait for an answer but he just stays silent. The moment I want to continue eating he says:,, Nathan Xavier Cameron.... That's my name. I'm 17 years old and I changed schools pretty often. Because I was... searching for someone important. I know that you are different from these people, just believe me. I want to protect you, that's why I need your information. I don't want to hurt you. No, it actually is quite the opposite: I want to help. I know what it feels like to be lost and don't know who to ask. And I'm the person you can ask all these questions. I'll answer them. But you gotta trust me. I know you. Better than you think. I thought you might want to know about your parents and go into detail about the adoption and that's why–"
"What adoption? What are you talking about? I'm not adopted. I mean, my parents would have told me but that's not possible. My brother is my real brother. I'm sure of it. Don't lie to me!"
"You... You didn't know about that? Serina, listen, I'm sorry but you have to talk to your parents. That's important. You have to know the truth about your past. About... Just everything. "
I can't really hear him. Everything sounds like it never really reaches my brain. I'm concentrating, trying to hear what he says... but it won't work. I feel like I can't breathe. I need to get out. I need fresh air.
"And that's nothing you can just–. Hey where are you going? Wait. You can't just leave!"
I ignore him and jump up from my seat. As I begin to run out I see Liv standing there and just looking at us. I ignore her and run through the big doors, out to the backyard of our school. As I arrive I sit on the ground, my back leaning against the wall. What the heck just happened?
