Author's note: So yeah, there's a slight change on the date of the application day for the Worthy. In this chapter it was Sunday night. The king announced the Worthy application to be on Tuesday. I hope it's made clear. :)
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
On Your Mark...Maxxinne
THE WORTHY SELECTION HAS BEGUN right after the announcement. Once a king declares the start of it, the process will begin. It is never to be delayed.I barely registered the gasps around me as I thought: Aren't the usual contests only held once the prince has fully turned sixteen? And how differently will it turn out? I mean with three princes' around? Question after question. Question that can't be immediately answered by a commoner. But the only question I had stuck in the back of my head was: Are we ready? Yes we will be signing in the application since every young lady allowed is obliged to unless they have a strong reason not to. But if- just if- we make it to be a contestant, will we be ready enough?
Just before I could ponder on more, the King's voice boomed through the speakers and throughout the heavily illuminated football field.
"As I'm sure you all know, The Worthy is a competition that will change a lucky and 'Worthy' young lady to marry the prince of Azalea."
I rolled my eyes dramatically. Like a single soul doesn't know that. The King carried on. "But this year will be a little different-" this perked everyone's attention even more. Different? A good different or a bad one?
"-for the first time in Azalean history, three princes' will be taking part in The Worthy! Each prince will be selecting ten eligible and suitable future brides based on appearance. Meaning instead of just ten contestants, there would be thirty!"
I had quiet a hard time processing what I just heard leaving me confused on how to feel about the sudden news the king dropped upon us. I looked to my right to see Cass's eyes bulging out of their sockets and her lips slightly apart from each other that the ends of it still meet. Further into my right, next to her is Jillian in a confused state. Her eyes knitted together as she frowned a little. She looked like she just saw a pig with wings fly for the first time. Instead of copying of their emotions, I just lightly chuckled at their shocked and baffled states causing some citizens to turn towards my direction and catch myself within unwanted attention.
"Now, application day starts on Tuesday at eight hundred o'clock at your respective districts embassy to fill in an application form. Phase two is to take a full body picture, so wear the best clothes you have ladies." I could already hear a few excited shrieks of Greens discussing about the matter. Once again I rolled my eyes. The best outfit I owned was a rusty and faded red strapless dress which had a dark brown belt at the waist and from then one, it puffed all the way until it reached mid-thigh.
"All females within the age thirteen to seventeen are very much obliged to join. Unless, of course, given a necessary reason not to. That will be all and thank you for your time."
With that, the King finally stepped down from the podium and the live camera now focused on Sierra Morrone. "Thank you your Highness for the informing speech! Now one last thing before we wrap this up. May the citizens have a couple of words from the Princes'? I am sure every single the lady out there are begging to know even a bit of you since you are barely seen by the country themselves."
The hostess beamed as the crowd in the background roared and some called out the names of the three royals. Screams and yelling echoed in the stadium that we are standing as well.
This time, the camera man moved to show the three royals most girls in the world are anticipating to meet. I first noticed Prince James showing off a heart warming smile. Then beside him was Prince Harry smirking at the roar of most teens. I scoffed, typical, he practically feeds on ego. But then my eyes landed on an unknown face, but I can't say he wasn't handsome. In fact, he was gorgeous. He showed a toothless smile and he has his hands clasped together on him lap. If looks can define a person, I'd say he has done this countless times before.
