Darius' POV

I got out of the shower, wrapping a towel around my waist. My hair was really mangy like a stray cat and my body still had a bunch of cuts that made me look extra ripe like a ripe peach.

Once I heard Jai wasn't at home and there was a rogue invasion, I immediately wrestled back control from Dominic. Ensuring Jai's safety was important and I couldn't leave it up to him. Besides as a wolf spirit I was a better tracker. Whatever faint scent I could grasp led me to a clearing in the woods surrounding the Moonstone Pack territory, where I found Jai....

...Fighting back against a stupid looking Alpha who had wrapped his disgusting hand around MY mate. Touching him, feeling him with his slimy hands like Jai was his and from the looks of it, Jai didn't like it one bit.

I was already on edge with Nalini making it clear that she was ok with Jai cheating on me, the visual of another Alpha's hands on MY Jai just pushed me over the edge. The fact that Jai was hurting as well, was a nice little bow on top.

What happened next was auto-pilot.

Filled with rage I fell upon the rogues like a silent terror. There was this itch under my nails that wouldn't go away no matter how many rogues I tore through, this thirst for blood for vengeance that couldn't ever be sated. The more I killed the more I wanted to kill. Soon the whole clearing was drenched in scarlet, reeking of nothing but death and blood. But I needed more.

I needed to feel the insides of that Alpha.

I am not proud of what happened next but there was no avoiding it either. Eviscerating a wolf while they're alive is cruel, their heart is kept alive by their healing powers so they can feel as you tear them to ribbons. I relished the feeling, of his flesh, the music of his screams, the scent of his fear, his eyes begging for death. When I had emptied his gut out, I proceeded to rip him apart piece by piece.

Like a scorpion devouring it's meal.

I didn't even know how long it went on but soon there was nothing left but his chest with his lungs and heart intact, but everything else including his head had been hollowed out. I turned around to check on my exhausted mate lying beneath a tree. My bloodlust had still not fasted complete but the very sight of him was disarming. Like I could fight anyone and anything in this world but when it comes to Jai I have to drop on my knees and beg for mercy. If something had happened to him, I would've burned this forest to the ground.

He's safe now.

I told myself trying to keep myself in control. Getting upset over "what if?" would be fruitless. It's best to put this behind us.

Hopefully he learnt his lesson.

The lesson being that he needs me to protect him. He needs to obey. If he had just submitted and let me protect him, none of this would have happened. Dominic should never have left him out of his sight., irrespective of what Jai wanted.

What Jai wants is irrelevant.

I walked out to find Jai sitting on his bed in nothing but his gym shorts. His lithe and athletic body was on full display, his strong back flowing into the tiny waist decorated with a happy trail and rounded out by his thick thighs. His dark-brown skin was glowing with health and his silky hair fell on his forehead in a dreamy moody way. There was something different about him he wasn't like this when left the castle. His scent was sweeter somehow and his skin flushed with red. The room smelt like the old him; slightly spicy tangy even but he smelt like Jasmine-Honey. His skin shone like that of a celestial being and for some reason his usually soldier like alert demeanour was more lax like a lazy cat. I would try to work the mystery out if I wasn't enjoying this view so much.
