"Rin...Rin? Rin, can you hear me?"

Slowly, like my mind was being lifted from a fog, I opened my eyes to see Linfa and Gale standing near by, both looking worried and holding one another, and Father Marks standing before me, a hand on my shoulder and concern on his face.

"There you are." He said, flashing me a relived smile. I was still standing on the dais, hands squeezed tight before me as if in prayer.

"What happened?" I asked. Had I not just been standing here. Its not like the others could have heard the strange conversations being held in my own mind right?

"Oh. nothing." Said Marks, patting my arm before leading me off the platform and toward my mothers. Linfa wrapped me in her arms while gale put a hand on my head. "It just seemed to be taking longer than usual is all."

"Not to mention the light show..." Sighed Gale, stroking my hair. She leaned down a little and smiled at me. "The gods must have been looking out for you Rin! I bet that one gave you a blessing!"

She had no idea... I thought back on the strange interaction as my parents and the priest started a conversation of there own. I had been told many a time that some times the gods would bless people during this ritual. Gale herself had been giving a blessing from Lute when she was my age! He had given her a special ability that improved her seeking skills. She never told me what her real profession had been in her youth, claiming only that she could get into any place undetected. But I had a pretty good suspicion that she may have been either a spy or an assassin for either the kingdom or the adventurers guild before either her love of Linfa or her knee injury had taken her out of the game.

A blessing from a god could very well shape the future of the person receiving it! And if what I had just experienced was not a figment of my own imagination, then I had just received seven of them... to say I was equal parts nervous and curios would be an understatement. And, now that I had been baptized, I could pull up my status window and check them. But I would wait. It was something I didn't want to do while in the presence of others. I'd wait till I was alone to see the damage.

"Alright!" Said Linfa, clapping her hands together and letting it echo in the cavern. "It is now time to celebrate!" She said happily.

"That's right." Chuckled Gale, ruffling my orange hair, causing me to swat at her arm. "Lets go eat. Its a birthday party, after all."

Marks laughed, his belly shaking under his robes. "That sounds like a fabulous plan. I hope you all enjoy your day." He smiled down on me, eyes sparking with happiness. "I have a feeling that you will grow into a fine young woman Miss Rin. I hope you can live a life full of love and adventure."

We left the church in a festive mood. I was worried about what could only be described as a free for all of gods, but I didn't want it to spoil Linfa and Gale's high spirits. And of course they were happy, their little girl just took part in a huge milestone for children in this world. And, oddities and worries aside, I was excited too. And it was my birthday!
