Simone Directed me to join the other children. To me, it looked like they were about as happy to have me there as I was to be near them. Still, as I kept reminding myself, this was for the sake of learning. these stuck up nobles were just like paintings on the walls. Decoration to the classroom that I attended.
Mind you, I had never had a class in a small field in the center of a forest that doubled as a rich mans back garden. But it wasn't like this was the weirdest thing I had seen since coming to this world.
"Why is there a commoner here." I heard one of the children whisper at my back, just loud enough to reach my ears but not to be picked up by our teacher's. She had walked a few paces away and turned to face us as a group.
"And what's with that hair?" Snickered another. "Is she part dwarf?"
I heard someone else click their tongue in annoyance. "Miss Simone told my father she would only teach if anyone who could afford the tuition could also join. He had no choice but to let a peasant in..." The girl said, making me resist turning around and glaring at the speaker.
"Harmony!" Hissed yet another voice, this one a boys and sounding like he was reprimanding the girl.
"Quiet now." Called Miss Simone, clapping her hands to get all of our attention, stopping me from hearing any more snide remarks. "Let us begin, shall we." She smoothed her hands down her rather intricate mages robes and set her kind eyes on us all. "Now, I know that some of you already have at least a concept of the basic's of magic, but it would negligent of me to avoid starting at the beginning just to appease your over eager minds."
There were a few annoyed groans behind me, but I also heard at least one sigh of relief. I wasn't incompetent by any means, but I also knew that what magical knowledge I did process came from books, experimentation, and what little Linfa and Gale could teach me. And, despite being of the highly magical race of the elves, Linfa did not know an abundance of magic, and what she did use was usually related to the growing or tending of her herbs. I had asked Gale about it once, but she asked that I not bring it up with my other mother. It was a sore spot for her, and I loved her too much to intentionally hurt her just to slake my own curiosity.
I would be a fool to pass up the chance to learn from someone who knew exactly what she was talking about.
"The first thing I will tech you, will be about the different magical attributes." Stated our teacher as she folded her arms and paced slowly before us. "How many of you know what your attribute- or attributes, as it may be- are?"
I looked behind me as I raised my own hand. I knew what my attributes were, after all, the blessing gifted to me by the magic god, Grail, made it that every attribute was my own. I am not sure how the god thought that this was a 'simple' blessing, but i shouldn't complain about what could only be a true talent and gift.
However, it did pose a problem that, until now, i had not thought of. Surely being able to use every element was not normal, and attending these lessons would, inevitably, show that that was exactly what I could do. I knew that it was not something that I could keep hidden for long, but i had hoped to be in better control when the information did leek.
Yet, as I watched two blonde children raise their hands as well, I could not have suspected that my secret would be out this very day.
The girl saw that I was looking at her and she glared back at me, her brother giving her a disapproving and worrying look. None of the other kids had raised their hands.
"Three of you? That's amazing!" Chirped Miss Simone cheerfully. "Some races are born knowing their elements, but humanity is not often so blessed. It is one of the many reasons why these early lessons can be so very beneficial. Most human mages can go years, just trying to pin down the attribute they are best compatible with. However, with guided lessons, one may find the correct course much easier." She said as I turned back to our teacher. "Now, for those who may not know, attributes are the base elements that all magic users work with, weather they be mages, monsters, or the gods themselves.
