"Vroom Vroom! BAM!" little Erica was making engine noises while pushing around a little red toy car she had begged her parents so hard to buy her. Erica loved toy cars unlike her older sister, Chrissy, who had a passion for Barbie dolls. When Erica was about to introduce her cars to the new one, her mother entered her room. Erica looked up excited to show her mother how much she loved the cars.

"Erica.....You need to stop playing with toy cars and all these...... 'Boy Toys'. You're a girl, so please, act like one. Wear dresses, have dolls. Be more like Chrissy! Look at her, whenever our relatives are over they love her! Don't you want them to love you too?" Her mother persuaded her. Erica was confused: Why can't she play with toy cars? Why are these "Boy Toys"? Why can't she continue wearing pants all the time? Her little 6 year old mind was confused.

"But..... I like them. It's okay if Uncle Jesse and Aunt Felicia doesn't like my toy cars, I can keep them when they're over!" Erica replied with enthusiasm, feeling smart that she came up with this idea. Her mother shook her head, she never understood why Erica was doing this. Erica then started going on and on about how her cars were getting along very well to her mother. She forced a smile and exited her room.

Erica never had any play dates unlike her sister who had birthday parties and picnics with her friends all the time. Erica was different from the other girls, she loved her sneakers and her favourite colour was blue. She was always into quieter activities alone like knitting and solving puzzles. But she never felt truly alone, whenever she needed company, her sister would always be her friend.

Even though they were twins, Chrissy was a contrast to Erica. She had tea parties every Wednesday and sleepovers on Friday nights. She wore dresses in her favourite shade of pink and was popular amongst her schoolmates. Even though she had many friends and lots of dance classes, she had a great relationship with her sister. She never felt as if there was anything different between them, they were the same in her eyes. She thought differently from her mother, she loved Erica for who she always was and will always be.

"Hey Delilah, today's steak is really good! Well done!" Chrissy told the old lady in a enthusiastic tone. The old lady's eyes twinkled, she loves compliments. Erica nodded while slurping down her spaghetti on purpose to irritate her parents. Her father frowned in disapproval at her lack of table manners at the table. They had expected Erica to grow up looking like an elegant young lady just like Chrissy but it never happened. The twins were now 12 and everything was still the same, Chrissy wears dresses and Erica was still the black sheep. Literally, black. Her whole wardrobe had changed from blues to all shades of blacks.

"Ay mate, that was a good barbie, you're a ledge. Cheerio! See you for Movie Night Friday at 9 Chrissy!" Erica said out loud before leaving to go to her room. Her parents were confused about how she couldn't act like a regular girl just like Chrissy. She was so...... unusual.

"Chrissy, please, talk to your sister. We can't-"

"If this is a talk about wanting Eri to wear dresses I'm not listening. I don't understand why you can't allow her to wear what she wants. So what if she likes rock bands? I think it's great, unlike you guys who are so judgmental about everything she does." Chrissy defended Erica. She was so sick and tired of her parents trying to make her sister be something she wasn't. Constantly wanting to make her more girly. Anger and confusion rushed through her veins, why do they always judge Erica so hard. She stood up and stormed to her room not giving a care that she was being disrespectful towards her parents. They were taken aback, Chrissy had never raised her voice at them, they must've really touched a nerve.

Erica immediately got on her phone and texted her Internet friend, Sara. They found each other on Tumblr and have been talking ever since. Sara and Chrissy were the only people who have never questioned why she wasn't "normal".

Erica: ugh they're at it again......

Sara: oh no, how bad is it this time?

Erica: it's alright because Chrissy is defending me, I love my sister <3

Sara: awhh, how cute! your sister is so nice, I want to meet her someday!

Erica: omg she just stormed inside her room she slammed the door holy shit

Sara: oh wow, shit just went down in your calm ass boring ginormous house

Erica: shut up it's not all that peaceful

Sara: ha right, i gtg, I need to pick up Ellie from church, bye!

Erica: bye :)

Erica hopped off her bed and picked up her brand new electric guitar. She started strumming a few power chords and began to play a full song, forgetting that her parents were home. Chrissy had bought Erica this full black Fender electric guitar she had wanted so badly. She even did research on how good it was and places that sold it, just in case her mother allowed her to get it.

Her guitar drowned the sound of her mother's footsteps approaching the room she was in. Erica strummed one last strum before she heard her name being yelled out loud. She lifted her head up to see her mother's furious face, burning with anger. Erica felt a shiver down her spine, she knew she was in so much trouble.

Her mother stormed into her room and ripped the instrument right off her grip. Erica tried to get it back but her mother gave her the glare that told her to not do it. She slumped right back into her mattress and sighed, there was no way she was going to be able to touch that guitar again knowing her own mother.

There goes another thing she loves.

It was almost like her sister was Snow White, perfect and well-loved and she was.... Ebony Black, the exact opposite of what her sister was.
