Erica slid out of bed on this cold wintery morning, ready for her first day of school, well college to be exact. She had moved away from her parents, far far away to America to take up a course she had a passion for: English Literature. She didn't discuss anything with her parents about going to another country for her education, she just left a note with her new contact details in case of an emergency.

All her parents did were send her $20,000 and told her she was on her own. They weren't going to meddle with her affairs anymore, she was truly independent. At first she was mad at her parents, mad that they basically left her to die in a new country she had never been to. But soon, she was relieved, she was finally, after so many years, out of their manipulative claws. They never let her have a choice in anything, it was always 'Oh Erica, it'd good for you.' 'This is for you to have a better future, what good are you going to get out of writing books? That's not going to help you earn your keep is it?'

One day, she cracked. She went online and searched up some of the best colleges in New York and sent in her applications. She got entered into Mayson College in New York and it took her no time in deciding to go there.

She didn't tell anyone about her plans except for Sara, which she approved since Sara lived in Toronto so she could visit her anytime which would allow them to meet for the first time ever. When the day came, she packed everything and left. Not a care about how her millionaire parents would react.

But before all that, she needed money, she knew her parents were not going to financially support her at all so, for the past few years she had worked her ass off in her family's hotel as a Manager to earn enough money to complete all the semesters in this course, and she was so glad she did. All of her hard work paid off and it came down to this.

She rented a one room apartment near campus which had affordable rent and was near the shops so it was very convenient for her.

Erica checked the time before hopping out of bed to get ready for the day. She grew up but her undying love for skinny jeans and boots didn't grow out. She paired her outfit with a brown woolly sweater and a grey scarf. Before heading out she grabbed her coat and headed outside.

Erica strolled to a nearby coffee shop to get a latte before going to school, she needed to warm up somehow in this cold weather.

After she got her drink, Erica took a sip of the warm beverage before walking to school. Her campus was 15 minutes away from her house which was of walking distance, that way she could save up on transport and avoid the terrible New York traffic.

Erica entered her first class and took a sit right to the left of the lecture hall, that way, she could lean on the wall if needed. As she was taking out her notepad, the lecturer walked into the hall and took a quick glance at everyone in the room before greeting the class.

Halfway through the class, the front door opening caused everyone to look in it's direction. Erica saw a familiar face, it was Chrissy. Fear was evident in her features as she saw her sister who had made her life a living hell ever since high school walk into her class.

All the way up until high school, Chrissy was kind and loving towards Erica. But, once they were in high school, Chrissy started getting popular in school and Erica was of course left out all the time. Soon, Chrissy started to openly avoid Erica because she was afraid that Erica might ruin her chances with getting friends.

"Sorry I'm late, I was caught up in traffic." Chrissy explained to the lecturer he nodded understandingly before asking her to take a sit. Chrissy sauntered to the seat right behind Erica and rolled her eyes at her.

Erica was scared, Chrissy had ruined her life before and all she wanted was to be alone but why was she here? It didn't make sense, her sister never liked writing, right?

Once class was over, Erica quickly picked up her things and left the room. She wanted to avoid any form of confrontation with Chrissy to avoid awkwardness.

"Hey Erica" Erica froze in place at Chrissy calling her name. "I know you're wondering why I'm here. Well, I like writing and I'm here to compete with you. I know that you came here to escape our family but guess what, I'm here to ruin it." Erica closed her eyes and walked away from whatever Chrissy had said. She did not want a small thing to ruin her day.

Chrissy smirked at the response she got from Erica. She had always been easily affected by words easily and Chrissy knew. Her sister was a total loser and never went out with any friends. Erica was so bad at EVERYTHING. Plus, their parents never liked Erica, she was not as perfect as Chrissy and Chrissy knew.

Erica walked out tears brimming out of her eyes. She couldn't believe that the one person she wanted to avoid is here to haunt her again. Chrissy was back to hurt her again.

Erica hurried to her next class hoping that no one saw her watery eyes. She sat down in the back of the class, hopefully she could sit through it without anyone talking to her. She quickly put her head down to avoid any weird looks from anyone. She felt a tap on her shoulder and she looked up.

"Hey you alright- oh my god are you okay??" She looked up and saw a worried looking face. Erica nodded stiffly and saw someone with glasses and messy curly hair.

"No you're not, you're crying. Do you need a tissue or something? Here have my apple juice." The boy spoke quickly. He reached into his bag and took out some tissue and apple juice. That made Erica laugh, he acted like a mother. The boy furrowed his brows in confusion and slowly shoved the tissue in her direction. Erica smiled and took the tissue but she pushed the apple juice away.

"I don't really like apple juice, I prefer orange juice thanks." The boy looked offended and gaped at her. How could anyone not like apple juice it's the greatest!

"I'll pretend I never heard that. Oh by the way, what's your name? I'm Mitchell but you can call me Mitch. Also, I am not from Pentatonix." He gave her a friendly smile. Erica chuckled at his last sentence.

"Hi, my name is Eva."
