Hey 😀 it's been a while 😄
I'm finally off school so i have some free time to write and destroy my eye sight🫡

3rd person POV:

It was like M/n pulled the heart out of his chest and shattered it. All the things he felt for him, the things they did together, all burned right in front of the sage.

"I'm sorry. But he is not the one for you, he never was. He most likely just wanted a means to escape his stress for a little while" it felt like she had stabbed Alhaitham in the chest repeatedly. "...where is he"

"You don't need to see him, he has better things to do" she spat. It was obvious that she has some sort of hatred towards Alhaitham, if he were her—he would have felt the same way too. "That's not what I asked"

"Look, you fucked once, that's all. There's no need to take away his precious time just to beg to fuck again"

"Why don't you yell at your fiancé instead of me? He's the one who wanted to fuck this morning, and he's the one who took it-"

She suddenly yelled out. "It's all your fault! How long have you known him?! Your the reason why he's not committing aren't you?!"

"Why would he want to commit to someone like you?"

"He has to! It's his destiny!" She jumped up and covered her mouth and looked away. "His destiny? What destiny?"

She went completely silent. There was a minute of silence between the both of them. Alhaitham caught himself admiring her features. Cloette's eyes were amber colored, with tan skin and and light wavy hair. He couldn't deny her beauty, he couldn't deny why he picked her.

Suddenly, she broke into a laugh. Like she wasn't about to cry a minute ago. She giggled sweetly with a happy grin.

"Do you honestly think he even likes you? I've talked with him this morning, he wants nothing to do with you."

"He just wants the artifacts."

Time stopped, he was right all along. From the investigation to now. How stupid he was to continue on based off of his emotions. To kiss him, to bed him, to think they could actually have something together.

"But aren't you compromising his plan by telling me who he really is?" She laughed at my words like a joke. "Really? You don't know who he is, I doubt you'll ever since he's leaving the Akademiya in a few days. And plus..." she leaned in closer her eyes straddling his gaze

"You can't turn him in. Can you?"

"...."

"I mean who could? He's very charming, so charming that the Acting Grand Sage decided to fuck him, even though he is classified as a criminal" she had sewn his mouth shut. Alhaitham had nothing to say. She giggled again and stepped back. "It was nice talking to you, Acting Grand Sage"

By that time the bar was about to close. Alhaitham waited for a few minutes before going back home, not even knowing if Kaveh was home or not. He didn't seem to care about anything else. He couldn't sleep, couldn't think, but Cloette had gotten one thing wrong, and it's that he will be resigning as Grand sage as soon as possible.

The next day

It turned out that he actually could've resigned the next day. It was one of the days where he actually had nothing to do and took this opportunity while it was still there. 'Maybe when I become Scribe once again, I'll finally have time to pick up some books and get my mind off M/n. Especially since he's leaving' Yet, he couldn't ignore the whole in his chest that yearned for M/n. He couldn't ignore the fact that he missed him.

Alhaitham handed his documents over to the lady behind the counter of the Akademiya. She looked at them and said in a pitiful voice "I'm sorry sir but, there is no one else who with fit the seat as Grand Sage, and the spot for The Scribe has already been taken days ago"

'What? How? Was it when I was away in the desert?' The woman nodded

"By who?"

(🙂)

Alhaitham ran down the hallway to the door and with immense force, flung it open to see the face he thought he would never cross paths with again.

"You're scribe?" Is all he could've choked up. Sitting at the desk, M/n removed his hands from underneath the table and looked up with a smile "Yes, I apologize, but the Akademiya has temporarily appointed me for the job until further notice"

Alhaitham was silent for a few seconds, reminding himself that nothing basically happened on M/n's side, and that he seemed blissfully unaware of his fiancée's actions last night. "So, you are Mahamatra, and Scribe?" That didn't make sense

"I applied when one of the sages was complaining about there last Scribe not doing all the paperwork and accepting students who didn't live up to the expectations of the Akedemiya. He just said I could until he finds someone better"

Alhaitham couldn't settle his emotions, he felt like attacking him, he also felt like hugging him, kissing him. But those things could not happen.

"I thought you had a job in Aru Village?"

"Oh I finished that..." his face turned red, "A little after you left" Normally, Alhaitham would tease him for blushing, but now he felt like he's the one being made fun of. M/n seemed utterly clueless about the fact that he was engaged and betrayed his future wife, and betrayed Alhaitham as well. 'I guess I will have to remain Grand Sage for a while longer' he thought 'just until I get these answers out of him'

"Is there anything I can do for you sir?"

"Please, refrain from calling me sir, we are way past the point of formality" Alhaitham's heart ached once he saw M/n cast a warm smile across his face, his eyes bright with affection, he had never seen this side of him, yet wished that this was a man of less cruelty, one with a heart meant for one.

Alhaitham dreaded that conversation of lies, pretending that they were...well, he had no clue. Even the Archon herself claims that so little of this world can fool a man like him, yet Alhaitham was absolutely clueless to the man in front of him.

Their conversation came to an awkward stop. After Alhaitham had gotten the full story of how M/n and Cyno fought off basically an army of monsters and Eremites. He had gotten an answer to all his questions

"How did you track the Eremites?"

"Was it close to the ones that helped us?"

"About that mysterious anemo user we fought, did you see her again?"

"Was she looking for you?"

"Did you ask the Eremites about her?"

"Why would you volunteer as Scribe?"

"What do you know of the artifacts?"

"Well...I know just as much as the investigation" M/n answered, pulling them back to square one. Alhaitham leaned back in the chair with a deep sigh, his head hung over the edge and kept his eyes closed. He was getting no where like this, M/n was dodging every question and sent him in a bigger spiral of confusion. After a few seconds he said "Who's Cloette?"
