"So how does Ryuunosuke know Nakajima?" Chuuya asked one morning - a week after his initial encounter with Dazai. It was just Higuchi and Hirotsu that afternoon, as it was a Saturday and there was a below average amount of customers. Higuchi was arranging the desserts and Hirotsu was reading a newspaper. Higuchi paused her task and looked at Chuuya. Chuuya was, once again, on till. Apparently because he hasn't been in the overworld for so long, he needs to observe the normal behaviour of today's humans to fit in (Tachihara also mentioned that he liked to watch Mr Executive suffer),
"Dazai introduced them a year or so ago," the name had Chuuya repressing a gag. "Atsushi seems to be head over heels for Ryuunosuke, which isn't the best considering, you know, he isn't human."
"Why would Dazai introduce them?"
"Atsushi rarely buys from here, he doesn't have the money, so he instead trails behind Dazai. Dazai used to tutor Ryuu when they attended university together, he was really mean but Ryuu admired him. Dazai ended up flunking his final exam and had to retake the year, hence why he's still in uni." Higuchi explained, "he just wanted Ryuu to tutor Atsushi, because he has only just joined his course, but as you can tell, they don't get along, kind of like you and Dazai."
"Interesting." Chuuya said dumbly, not really knowing how to respond to that. Dazai and his gaggle of weirdos visited every day that week after their lectures. Atsushi did his usual routine of apologising for not ordering and then asking how Ryuunosuke was. Ranpo occasionally brought in a tall, lanky man. The man shielded his eyes with a messy bed of hair and had a strange raccoon perched on his shoulder at all times and often bought Ranpo food. Kunikida apologised profusely for their behaviour and Yosano came up with an infinite amount of strange orders for her drink. Dazai... well, he was being his eccentric self. He was always coming up with terrible pick up lines that seemed to get dirtier by the day - each time Chuuya would shut him down.
"Are your pants from outer space? Because your ass is out of this world!"
"No they're from Urban Outfitters."
"Are you an exam? Because I have been studying you like crazy."
"That'll be ¥693."
"Give me your car keys so I can drive you crazy."
"I drive a motorcycle."
"That's so hot."
"Get out."
"Are you an elevator? Because I'll go up and down on you."
"That's repulsive."
However, no matter how many times Chuuya insulted him, or turned him down, the man would always come crawling back for more. Chuuya was seriously wondering if he was a masochist or just desperate. Regardless, he had to commend him, a week since Chuuya was sent to the overworld and he was still as alive as ever. He really didn't understand why Dazai was assigned a grim reaper, but he was anything but a quitter. He imagined himself dragging his sorry ass back to Mori, explaining that he was defeated by a flirtatious maniac.
Chuuya also hadn't noticed any suicidal tendencies from him, which was a note given to him in Dazai's case file. If anything, he seemed happy. He had a close friend circle, money to purchase a coffee every weekday (and a copious amount of bandages) and seemed to excel at university. He truly was an enigma, which is why Chuuya planned to visit him that Thursday at the dead of night when he was sleeping to learn more about this guy. Why Thursday? You may ask him.
