TW: PTSD

In a cozy moonlit living room stood a 9-year old with big, tear-filled eyes before her father.

"Do you know what an ungrateful brat you are?" He sneered.

She could do nothing but fidget with her fingers, biting her lip, her eyes welling up fresh tears flowing down her cheeks.

This incident had taken place way too many times in the household.

She deeply regretted not listening to her mother's words of locking herself in the bedroom until she was back.
But instead little Adira had opened the toy box in the living room and decided to play until her mom came back for dinner.

Her father continuing cussing at her in his native language which she was not fluent in, and she was thankful she did not learn the language knowing she would not be able to bear the words he threw her way.

"Are you listening?" He yelled, tightening the grasp he had on her arm.

"Get your hands of her!" Jane had thankfully been able to reach home sooner than she thought.

"There you are, what do you even think of yourself?" He screamed raising his hand at his wife.

Jane was prepared to receive the blow on her face. But it never came.
When she opened her eyes, she saw her little girl holding back her father's hand with all her might to protect her mother.

"Oh you wanna save your fucking mother now?" He snapped.

And before she could prepare herself, Adira was pushed towards the little glass coffee table before the couch.

*Thump*

Adira jerked awake.
She stared at the alarm clock on her bedside reading 2:36 am.

She gulped down a bottle of water, sighing.

It had been the third one that week and she was exhausted. She could never fall asleep again after the nightmares, leaving her really tired the whole day.

She was really frustrated because it felt like she had just broken the sickening cycle of the nightmares and feeling like shit.

Another 2-3 weeks go by and here she was again.

To get her mind off it, she picked up her phone scrolling through the news articles.

The news was out to the world now that Adira is the new team principal of Nitro. Anthony had strategically hired some trusted media sources to cover parts of the introduction party before Stephen opens his mouth to spread any ugly info about the team.

Of course this added even more complexity to Adira's already complicated life. One part of the viewers were pissed at the fact that Stephen was replaced by a young female with no experience. Whereas the English viewers were more than proud that the only female team principal in the current grid was from the UK.

Her relatively calm social media accounts had began overflowing with comments left and right. Some of them positive and the rest, not so much.

She opened a notification from her best friend, Isla. Adira cringed at the various clips and pictures that was sent to her.

Now that Adira had come into the direct target of the sport media, she could not leave her house without getting papped.
Living in the main city of London did not help it either.

Of course Isla had taken it upon herself to annoy her best friend by sending her paparazzi pictures taken in the worst angles of her.
