"Abba" i called closing the kitchen door as i walk towards him "Good morning" i greeted smiling.
"Morning auta" he smiled back "how was your night? i can see you are up so early, did you change your sleeping schedule?"
"Alhamdulillah. Yes i had to" i answered smiling, i didn't expect him to forget, abba was always complaining about my wakeup and bedtime whenever am back home for holidays. "...is this how you lazy around all day at school? For someone studying medicine" he will always scold
"Is that coffee?" He asked surprised
"Yes abba i now drink coffee" i laughed
"Wow that's..."he stated not knowing what to say clearly amused "i guess going to canada wasn't a bad idea" he said sounding relieved as if all these while he had been thinking he made a mistake.
"But you lost a lot of weight, were you sick? Was it studies or you changed your meal schedule also? Cause you've gotten really thin and honestly speaking i don't like it" he said looking at me closely, we haven't talked since i came yesterday.
I surprised all of them, no one knew i was coming back. I saw hannan few times, we exchanged pleasantries and some little talks awkwardly, i haven't seen kamaal and as for my mum, hmmm that one? She almost passed out when she saw me, she looked as if she had seen a ghost and i pat myself proudly. I greeted her like nothing happened i even told her i missed her, note the 'sarcasm'. This is it, my first step to paying her back, she just wait and see, i came fully prepared for her. I left her there speechless and i went to my room, Faisal told me she went to drop abba at his office so i waited for her to return. I slept and lazied around throughout the day till abba was back from work and i went to greet him, of course he was also surprised, he could not conceal his excitement.
I fake joy "Really? You know my dream have always been to slim down, everyone knows that i never like how chubby i was. I tried some weight loss stuff and i can see it worked" I lied, the part where i didn't like my chubby self was true and obvious, everyone knew about that! i've always wanted to slim down but i was a foodie, i eat a lot so it was impossible back then. Now here i am with zero efforts, not only did i slim down but also got bonus, heck i look like someone who has been battling with sickness for years.
"But this is too much auta, is it safe for me to say you've aged? You want to look older than me? My auta of when fah?" He teased
I heard footsteps and the next thing mum was standing with us "Abba!!" I whined pouting while he laughs
"Good morning mum" i greeted smiling at her to which she answered nervously, why is she sweating? Lol i almost burst out laughing. I escorted abba to the parking lot with mum tailing behind us silently. Abba kept complaining about how thin i have become while i made jokes out of it, if only this man knows what has happened under his own roof.
"Good morning Alhaji" taleeb greeted
"Morning taleeb how was your night?"
"Alhamdulillah" he answered as dad got inside the back seat
"Ya taleeb" i waved at taleeb and he smile shaking his head. "Hey. Welcome back" he said. Did he just ignore mum's presence? He didn't greet her and mum didn't seem to bother? She didn't quarrel? Yooo!
"Thank you. Ya taleeb did you miss me?" I asked grinning
"Lateefah!" He warned playfully and i chuckled raising a hand in surrender, he said we should call him taleeb that he is not comfortable with the 'yaya' stuff, yep i said it on purpose.
Mum finished talking to abba about Allah knows what through the window and i saw taleeb smirked at her as he left to enter the car, she saw him and i also noticed the way she glared at his back..Okayy what was that?
