I slowly opened my eyes then shut them again. The light around me was too bright to take in all at once.

Am I dead? I thought.

Then I heard a familiar voice. "There she is. Open your eyes, Amellia."

I opened my eyes again; squinting first this time. The bright light was a combination of the sunlight seeping in through the window to my left and the overhead light above me. I opened my eyes more once they adjusted and glanced around the room. Sitting next to me was Roland, Skyler was standing next to him.

"Hey there. How are you feeling?" Skyler asked.

"I'll go let a nurse know she's awake." Roland said as he stood up then exited the room.

The more conscious I became, the more I became aware of the ache in my thigh. Images of what happened flooded my mind. "Did they catch him?" I asked instead of answering her question.

"Who?"

"My father."

"Your father? I don't know. We don't even know what happened, they only just now visit you today." She explained.

"How long have I been here?"

"I'm not sure. We found out yesterday that you were in here while we were visiting Merek. He's a few rooms down that way." She gestured to the wall behind my bed.

"I'm in the critical condition wing?"

Skyler nodded.

Roland returned with a nurse, as well as a doctor.

"Good morning, sweetie. I'm Rebecca, your nurse and this is Dr. Hilton." Rebecca appeared to be a younger woman, but still older than me. She had beautiful olive-toned skin and deep black hair that was straightened. She was a bit on the heavier side with nice womanly curves. She wore a golden necklace with a heart pendant around her neck, along with her lanyard that held her badge and keys. Her scrubs were a nice aqua color and she had on a pair of white sneakers. Dr. Hilton was an older gentleman who was probably in his late fifties, his light brown hair was greying so was the hair of his nicely trimmed beard. He had a black polo shirt underneath his doctor's coat and had a stethoscope draped around his neck. He was tall and muscular. He also wore a silver watch on his large wrist and a wedding ring on his left hand.

Skyler took Roland's seat next to my bed and he stood beside her while the Dr. Hilton began talking.

"Are these your friends?" Dr. Hilton asked. His voice was a soothing tone.

I nodded.

"Are you okay with them staying while we talk, or would you like them to leave?"

"Yes, I want them to stay. Where's my mom?"

Dr. Hilton exchanged glances with Rebecca before he responded. "We've tried to contact her several times and we haven't been able to get a hold of her. He explained.

I sighed. "That's not like her. How long have I been here?"

Rebecca busied herself with checking over my IVs and switching out the fluid bags.

"This is your fourth day. First of all, can you tell me your name?"

"Amellia Raymond."

"Good. And your birthday?"

"June 23rd, 2003."

"Good. Amellia, do you remember what happened?"

"Yes. I don't know what happened after I blacked out. Have I really been here for four days?"
