Fives pov
After we passed by Shiganshina, Commander Keith had dropped us off by the exit gate. While he and the rest of the Section Commanders continued on to report to their superiors about today's expedition. We said good luck. Captain Rex then turned to us and said we could walk around Shiganshina for a bit and get some food, if we want to. We then split into two. Tup and I began walking around the city, until we saw Eren, Armin, and Mikasa sitting at the steps by the port.
Tup: Hey, you three.
Tup called to them. They turned and greeted us.
Armin: Oh hi, Tup. Hey, Fives. What are you guys doing here?
Fives: The Captain allowed us to walk around for a bit. While the Scouts report to their superiors about the expedition.
Eren: What was your guy's first thought of joining the expedition?! Come on, tell us!
I could tell Eren was excited. Armin and Mikasa nodded their heads as well. Tup and I looked at each other and decided to tell them.
Fives: Alright, I'll tell you from the beginning.
I regained my composure and began to tell them what happened in the morning.
Fives: Our first day as new members of the Scout Regiment, it was different. It was cool before the storm. Nothing at all like the simulations from our home. Of course, that's pretty much the way it was for all of us, wasn't it? All the years of fighting a war. It doesn't really prepare you for all the sights the Titans would give you. Frankly, I'm still amazed we made it the first hour, nevermind the first day.
I then explained the whole ordeal. From the new recruits seeing their first Titan, Hevy and Hardcase severing the limbs off the Titans, everyone slaughtering Titans left and right, Kix saving Moses from being eaten, to us retreating back to Wall Maria. The three were awed, while listening to the story. Armin then raised his hand and asked how the Scouts ran out of supplies.
Fives: I was getting there, and I'm still in disbelief, to be honest.
Fives: Incredibly, our first expedition took the whole morning and afternoon. The Scouts were running dangerously low on supplies, because of the non-stop slaughter of the Titans. The Commander fired the yellow flare and the others followed. He said the mission is a success. When the Scouts merged into one group to retreat back to Wall Maria, I was stunned. Before the expedition had begun, we decided to split into groups of two for each squad and everyone from those squads were still alive. Most had minor injuries. Emerging battle-hardened and ready for whatever this war would throw at us. It was indeed a successful mission.
After I told the story, Eren and Armin were amazed that we've killed countless Titans. While Mikasa still has her straight face. I still don't understand why she's like this.
Tup: If any of you don't mind me asking, what are all of you doing here?
Tup said as Armin turned to him to answer, while sitting down on the floor.
Armin: Oh, we just came here to sit down for a bit after my run in with the bullies.
Just as Armin said I realized where I was, when I had my nightmare.
Fives (thoughts): It was the same place, where it all began.
I started panicking, but for a little while as I calmed myself down. Until Eren said something, prompting Mikasa to reply and Armin interjected into the conversation. It was exactly what I heard from my nightmare. I took off my helmet to breathe fresh air as the wind built up. I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned to see Tup with his helmet off looking at me with concern.
