CH. 3
Cody stares at the large villa as he walks towards it. Today is Saturday, and they're hanging out at Heather's house. "Wow, your house is really nice..." He says in awe, and Heather smirks, "I know, right?" Courtney puts a hand on his shoulder, "Make sure you check out her moms' boob job. They're hard as rocks. Personally, I would've sued my surgeon." The four walk in, and Heather yells out that she's home. Cody takes his time to look around and appreciate the expensive furniture that he wouldn't be able to afford in a million years.
"Hey, hey, hey! How are my best girlfriends!" An older woman wearing all designer clothing walks in. So this must be Heather's mom... She glances at the girls and then at Cody. "Oh, who's this? Is he your boyfriend?" She asks her daughter and Heather gags. "Mom, God, no! This is Cody. He's just part of the group. He's not my boyfriend." Cody feels himself light up a bit at that. Heather said he's one of them now. He wonders how Gwen's going to react. Heather's mom looks at him again and then brings him in for a painful hug. Courtney was right... her implants must've been made from steel. When she pulls away, Heather's mom smiles at him. "Well, I just want you to know, if you need anything, don't be shy, okay? There are no rules in this house. I'm not like a regular mom, I'm a cool mom. Right, Heather?" Heather stares blankly at her, "Please stop talking.", and walks to her room. Courtney and Lindsay follow her, and Cody does too. While they leave, Heather's mom yells something about making them drinks. She seems like someone who's peaked in high school and is now chasing their long-gone youth... Heather opens her bedroom door. Cody looks around with wide eyes. "This is your room?" Her bedroom was about ten times as large as Cody's. "It was my parents', but I made them trade me." She smirks. Cody turns to look at a bulletin board with a bunch of pictures on it. His eyes land on one of Heather and Alejandro embracing each other at a party. They look happy and in love. Cody's heart aches the longer he looks at it. He's brought out of his thoughts as Heather starts blasting a pop song on her speaker and walks towards her full-length mirror. "Hey Cody, do you even know who sings this song?" Cody shrugs, "Is it... Spice Girls?" Heather laughs and looks at Courtney and Lindsay, "Oh, he's great, isn't he? He's like a Martian."
"God, my hips are huge!" Lindsay looks at herself in the mirror. The three girls stand before it and point out anything and everything they'd like to change about themselves. Cody watches them blankly. He thought there was just skinny and fat, but there are so many things about the body that people are insecure about. "Huge? Just look at my calves..." Courtney whines and Heather pushes her out of the way to look at herself in the mirror. "At least you two can wear halter tops, I have man shoulders." Cody looks at them in silence as they criticize themselves. It goes on for a while before all three of them slowly turn to him, expecting him to say something. Cody's brain stutters, he never gave his appearance much thought or anything, he blurts out the first thing that comes to mind- "Um. I have really bad breath in the morning..." -And immediately regrets it. Lindsay grimaces, "Gross." Cody wants nothing more than to go home right now. But instead, he awkwardly avoids eye contact with them.
It's a good thing Heather's mom knows when the perfect time to interrupt is.
"Hey, you guys! Happy hour is from 4 to 6!" Heather's mom barges in with a tray of drinks. They all grab one. Cody looks at it. "Thanks... Is there alcohol in this?" She gasps, "Oh god honey, no! What kind of mother do you think I am? ....Why? Do you want some? 'Cause if you're gonna drink I'd rather you do it in the house..." Cody shakes his head quickly, taking a sip from the sweet-tasting drink instead. "Sooo, how are you all? What's the hot gossip? Tell me everything!" Heather visibly cringes and glares at her mom. "Mom, can you go fix your hair?" Her mother smiles, "Okay! Gosh, you girls keep me young, love you so much!" She blows a kiss at her daughter and leaves.Cody hears a gasp behind him. "Oh my god! I remember this!" Cody turns around and sees Lindsay standing by the bookshelf in Heather's room. She's holding a large pink book in her hands. Heather and Courtney put their drinks down and walk over. Heather looks at the cover, "I haven't looked at that thing in forever..." Courtney turns to Cody, "Check it out, Cody. It's our burn book. We cut out peoples photo's from the school yearbook, and then we wrote comments." Cody walks over and looks at the book as Heather opens it and flips through the pages.
"Beth is a grotsky little biotch. Still true." She flips the page, "Owen is a fat virgin. Still half true." The three girls look at each other and snicker. Courtney reaches out to the book and flips the page to a picture of Gwen and Noah. "Gwen... Fag." Lindsay looks at the picture and points to Noah, who's next to Gwen. "Who's that?" Courtney looks at her, "I think it's that kid Noah. They're always together." Cody laughs and rolls his eyes, "Yeah, he's almost too gay to function." Lindsay and Courtney both burst out laughing, but Heather just looks at him with a smirk. "That's funny, write it down." Cody feels his heart drop. Shit. Maybe that was only okay when Gwen said it... He doesn't say anything, however. He keeps his smile on his face as Courtney writes his comment down with a glitter gel pen.
"So, how was your girl's night, anything hot happen?" Gwen and Noah stand beside Cody. They're standing at the drugstore in the mall where Gwen works. Cody half-heartedly punches Noah's shoulder. "Shut up. It was fine. I mean, it was okay." Gwen looks at him, "Just okay, hm? What happened? Did Heather pull some shit?" For a moment Cody debates telling her about anything that happened. "...Well, Kinda. Look, there's this book that they have. This burn book. Where they write mean things about all the people in our grade."
Gwen looks up, "What does it say about me?" Cody's mind blanks. He can't tell Gwen, he just can't "...You're not in it." Gwen scoffs, "Those bitches." Noah grabs something off the shelf next to them and turns to Gwen, "Will this minimize my pores?" "...No. Cody, you gotta steal that book." Cody immediately shakes his head. "Fuck no, I don't steal!" "Cody, there are two kinds of evil. People who do evil stuff, and people who see evil stuff and do nothing to try to stop it. We could publish it and then the world can see how much of a little bitch she really is!" Cody looks at the ground in contemplation. Noah points at a woman in the perfume section of the store, "Does that mean I'm morally obligated to set that lady's outfit on fire?" Gwen and Cody look towards where he's pointing. "Oh my God," Gwen gasps, "That's Ms. Norbury. I love seeing teachers outside of school, it's like seeing a dog walk on its back legs..." Ms. Norbury notices them too and walks towards them with a smile. "Oh hey! I didn't know you worked here, Gwen." Gwen nods awkwardly. Ms. Norbury turns to Cody. "Cody, I hope you do join the mathletes, you know. We start in a couple of weeks." Cody nods, "I think I'm gonna do it." Ms. Norbury smiles but Noah shakes his head vigorously, "You can't join the mathletes, it's social suicide!" Ms. Norbury looks at him, "Thanks, Noah. Well, this has been sufficiently awkward. I'm gonna go now. Bye." They all wave goodbye to her and she leaves the store. Gwen turns back to Cody. "...So. When are you gonna see Heather again?" Cody sighs. "I can't spy on her anymore. It's getting weird." Gwen pushes him lightly, "Come on! she's never gonna find out. It'll be our little secret!"
Cody's sitting at his desk doing his homework when his phone rings, it's Heather. He hesitates before picking up.
"I know your little secret." Shit. Start crying and apologizing... Or, no. Play it cool. Cody coughs, "What secret? I don't know what you're talking about." - "Courtney told me that you like Alejandro. I mean, I don't care. Do whatever you want, but let me tell you something about Alejandro. All he cares about is school and his mom and his friends." Cody hears her sigh. "But if you like him, whatever. I mean, I can talk to him for you if you want." Cody smiles, "Really? You would do that... But, nothing embarrassing right?" - "But, wait. Aren't you so mad at Courtney for telling me? Because it was a pretty bitchy thing of her to do." Cody frowns, he didn't want Courtney to tell Heather, but he's not mad. "No? I guess it was pretty bitchy, yeah. But I'm not mad. I guess she just likes the attention." Cody hears an offended gasp. "See, Court? I told you he's not mad." "I can't believe you think I like attention!" The phone quickly gets hung up. He didn't know it was a three-way call. He sighs.
