James woke up in the forest again. He sat up and looked down at his hands, cursing under his breath. This is how it's been recently, foggy, unknown, scary. It was dead quiet, other than the sound of the leaves shifting from him standing up. He looked around at his surroundings, just trees, he gazed up where the sky and sun would be, finding only more fog densely concealing the outside world. He tried to take a step, feeling a heavy weight looming over him. He sighed, things had not changed even after all this time. But he could only do what he knew was right, keep moving, don't look back, and make it out of the haze.
As he moved through the forest, the air remained thin, making it hard for him to keep going. Leaning on trees when he got a chance, he felt as if his body wanted to give on him, his mind wanted to give. He leveraged himself off the tree and continued his journey. Time passed and he made it to a clearing, the grass not shifting an inch. As he shuffled through the field he tried to maintain his balance to make it through it. Every step became more and more shaky till he fell into the grass. He cursed himself and used the last of his might to shift to his back. He stared at the foggy sky. As he stared he slowly began to feel himself unravel, tears began to stream down his cheeks.
So many thoughts began to run through his head. "What did I do to deserve this? How can I keep going with all this pain deep inside?" He gripped the sides of his head and yelled "GET OUT, GET OUT, LEAVE ME ALONE!" it was as if he was screaming into a void as he let everything spill out.
"You know you can't keep doing this to yourself." The voice made him jump alittle as he tried to get up. When he turned to the voice he saw something he did not expect. A younger version of himself. "How long do you intend to let this play on? You have been trying to escape but you are trapped. In a world derived from your pain."
James looked to the side, "I... I don't know what you're talking about."
The younger version of himself gave him an annoyed look. "So you intend to let yourself be here and to gravel in this cesspool of grief you can't handle healthily? Let someone in."
James looked to the side, "I can't..."
The young James tilted his head, "you can. Going through this all alone, is not what you deserve. WE deserve love and happiness, to smile and laugh without it being forced or faked. But you have to take the steps to do that, to better yourself right?"
James sighed. "You can only say that cause you're me before all this."
Young James took a seat beside him, "That might be true, but I'm also the you that you healed yourself. The inner child you finally gave love to. The love we deserved when we were younger." James shut his eyes as his body shivered at the deep emotions he felt. "We are gonna be fine, you know that. But you have to open up, I can't heal you, The past won't heal you. We do that in the present."
Jame lifted his head a little, with tears running down his cheeks, "But I don't know where to go, I'm stuck."
Young James gave a small smile, "It's okay to feel that way, but we always find a way right? You remember when we would say that right?" James nodded and wiped his tears away. "Then let's find the way then." Young James stood up and extended his hand. James reached out and gripped his hand. As he stood up he still felt the weight hitting him. "What is next, what is the way?"
James looked around for a few more moments, "I... I don't fully know."
Young James smiled, "You do, trust your gut."
James took a deep breath. "To the happiness we deserve."
Young James smiled. "Good, now go. We got this, You got this."
James began to slowly take steps forward. Listening to his gut and feeling his weight become lighter with each step. "I- Look I'm doing it!" He turned to find he was alone again. He put his hand on his chest and closed his eyes. After a few moments he continued his journey. A shuffle became walking, walking became jogging, jogging became a full sprint. He began to feel alive again. The fog became thinner and thinner, till he could see everything clearly. He saw a house in the distance. He made it to the steps and looked back one more time. He just saw tree's and the fallen leaves. After a few moments he turned and looked at the door and the handle. He slowly reached out, almost wanting to hesitate but took the chance. He opened the door and saw a bright light. He felt the warmth hitting him like a warm sun. He stepped in and closed the door behind him, the next moment he woke up.
End.
