Ariadne descends into the Limbo. She looks everywhere in the hope of finding Cobb, Eames or Saito. After hours of searching, she ends up in a building reminiscent to the one she saw in Cobb's memories of Mal. She goes to every floor, until she reaches one where Cobb and Mal are spending time with their children. She hesitates to enter at first seeing all of them happy, but moves in nonetheless. Mal becomes defensive and picks up a knife to attack her, but Cobb tries to handle the situation and begs Mal not to engage in any violence in front of their children. Cobb, who has lost his sense of reality, tries to explain Ariadne that the Limbo is the real world. Mal, in the meantime, loses her cool, and attempts to attack Ariadne with the knife. But Cobb jumps in between them and the knife strikes him on the shoulder. He falls down, and a brass top, Mal's totem falls out of his pocket. Ariadne hurriedly, picks it up and spins it on the table. The totem keeps on spinning and Cobb realizes that it's all a dream. Mal pleads her to stop it but Cobb was now convinced. Before Mal could ask him to stay, he confesses to Mal that this whole idea of her questioning her reality came from him. While they were in limbo, she had stored away her totem in the house she grew up; in an immobile state locked in her safe which made her believe that the Limbo was the real world. In order to free them from this, Cobb broke into her safe and spun the top to convince that the world they were in wasn't real. However, he didn't realize that this idea could grow into a cancer in her head that even after she woke up, she'll feel the same about the real world. Mal asks him to make amends and stay back with her, which he refuses to do. He tells her that even though he tried to create the best version of her from his memories, she's just not her. As he's about to leave, he sees Mal standing on a window, about to jump, just like she did in the real world, but he doesn't look back. He knows he has to let her go. As the music starts getting louder, Cobb tells Ariadne to jump as the countdown was nearing. Ariadne hesitates, but Cobb assures her he'll bring Eames and Saito back. Ariadne takes the leap of faith. Cobb starts looking for both of them, as he gets attacked by some armed guards. Cobb is taken as a prisoner to a seaside castle where an elderly Japanese man recognizes the totem that was in his pocket. Saito had aged as he accepted Limbo as his reality. Cobb asks him about the whereabouts of Eames, to which Saito replies, had created an empire of his own, just like a certain Maurice Fischer did in the real world, and Saito's empire in the Limbo was no match for his. Cobb pleads Saito to take him to Eames. They arrive at an old building redolent to that of Maurice Fischer's. The gates open and they are allowed to enter. But as they enter, they are shocked to see Peter Browning, only that it wasn't. All his physical features, all his mannerisms were correct, but he spoke the language of Eames. Cobb reminds him who he was, what he was there to do, and then calls to both Eames and Saito, asking them to come back with him and honour their arrangement. The elderly Saito reaches for Cobb's gun.
Cobb wakes up on the airplane.
