I had thought the nightmare was finally over. The man who had attacked me was behind bars, and I was free to live my life again. But the darkness had other plans.
One day, I received a phone call from a friend: the man had escaped from prison. My heart plummeted into my stomach as my mind raced with fear and anxiety.
I knew he would come for me. I was his unfinished mission, the one who had gotten away. And I had no idea how to protect myself.
I tried to reach out to the authorities, but they didn't take me seriously. They assured me they were doing everything they could to apprehend the fugitive, but I knew that wouldn't be enough.
I started to feel like a prisoner in my own home. I stopped going out as much, stopped seeing my friends. I was always looking over my shoulder, always on high alert.
But it was only a matter of time before he found me.
One night, I woke up to the sound of my window shattering. I bolted upright, heart pounding, as I saw the silhouette of a man entering my apartment.
I knew it was him.
As he crept closer, I scrambled to my feet, ready to fight for my life. But he was too quick, too strong. I stood no chance.
He grabbed me by the hair and dragged me to the ground. I screamed and fought, but it was useless. He was in control.
He leaned down and whispered in my ear, "You thought you could get away from me, didn't you? Well, you were wrong. I'll never stop until I get what's mine."
I knew then that I was going to die. I had fought so hard to escape my past, but in the end, it had caught up to me.
But just as I was about to give up, I heard a commotion outside. The man tensed up, distracted for just a moment.
That's when I saw my chance. With every ounce of strength left in me, I kicked him away and ran towards the door.
As I reached the entrance, two police officers burst into the apartment. The man cursed and struggled, but it was no use. He was apprehended once again, but the damage had been done.
I was left trembling and broken, my sense of security forever shattered. The darkness had won, and this time, I wasn't sure if I had the strength to fight back.
