Mew and Gulf were very busy with their different jobs, although none of them were together. They kept in touch through messages, the older one felt nervous every time he received a new message, he hoped it was Gulf asking him for a date or maybe showing that their relationship was moving forward, but the messages ended up being the same, them talking about work, video games and nothing too deep.
The weekend of the family dinner had arrived, although Mew had offered to go through the younger to go together to his grandfather's house, Gulf had rejected the offer, claiming that it was too far and that it was easier for the elder to drive directly towards the place and wait for him.
Mew had to go to his grandfather's house earlier than planned because his mother sent him a message asking him to bring her some ingredients that they forgot to prepare the meal. Upon entering the house, he went directly to the kitchen, where he met his mother and aunt, who were preparing some things.
"Son, I'm sorry to have bothered you, but Jom had to stay longer at work due to an unforeseen event and she couldn't bring things anymore", Mew's mother said, while she took the purchases that her son had made.
"It doesn't matter, he was already awake", Mew could see from the kitchen that his father, uncle and grandfather were in the patio preparing the grill, wanting to avoid malicious comments from his uncle, he decided to stay inside the house. "Where are my cousins ?"
Mew had a good relationship with his cousins, well, as long as his uncle was not around, he had noticed from a very young age that his aunt and cousins changed their behavior around his uncle, he knew that his uncle did not hit them but instead used his command voice every time one of them did not obey him immediately, although that was not something new, his uncle used his command voice with everyone, I witness occasions in which he used the command voice with his father and a few less with his grandfather. Everyone in his family knew that he would take advantage of being an alpha of alphas so that his word would be the last in a conversation.
Mew's cousins were fixing a water leak in the bathroom of one of the guest rooms, but it seemed that they had more problems than they had thought since they were both totally drenched and the water kept wasting uncontrollably in the shower.
"They should have closed the water faucet before trying to repair it", Mew told them in a greeting mode as soon as he entered the room.
"It's in the basement", said Alex, the oldest of his cousins. "And I hate going in there".
"It's dark and gloomy", complete Tom his other cousin.
"And here I thought that the alphas were not afraid of nothing", Mew was smiling to see them battle.
To adjust a bolt it seemed only that
was missing to end the leak."My children are not afraid of anything", their uncle's voice made the three of them tense. "A defective omega should not speak like that to an alpha", he said while looking at Mew with disdain, then he directed his gaze to his son. "And you shouldn't let them talk to you like that".
No one said anything, it didn't matter if his cousins wanted to defend him or not, they knew it was best to keep quiet and wait for their uncle to leave. Mew shuddered as he felt his uncle's gaze return to him, he was grateful not to be alone because he always felt uncomfortable in his uncle's presence.
"Someone is looking for you", Mew's uncle said curtly.
That alone was enough for Mew to get out of there, as he passed by his uncle he noticed the aroma that he was expelling, it was a sour one, as if he was upset about something but he wouldn't stay to find out.
The awkwardness ended the second he noticed who was sitting in one of the kitchen chairs with Chopper on his lap, smiling as he talked to his mother and aunt.
"You arrive early"
Gulf smiled in Mew's direction, carefully lowering Chopper and walking towards him.
"Hello Phi", Mew was static, happy but in shock, the youngest had hugged him, in front of his aunt and mother, he was not usually affectionate in front of other people and also whenever they saw each other it took him a few minutes to get closer, usually being Mew who would have to make the first move to physical contact or conversation.
"Hi Gulf", Mew answered finally wrapping his arms around Gulf, and breathing his aroma.
Mew's mother and aunt looked at them with affection in their eyes, both boys looked tenderly hugging in the middle of the kitchen, on the other hand was Mew's uncle who had red eyes of anger after observing the scene.
Having separated, Mew took Gulf to the garden to greet his grandfather and father, after a few minutes his uncle decided to join them, the older one tensed up waiting for any comment to bother or offend the younger one or him, but nothing happens. His uncle remained silent watching them, he noticed the confused looks of his father and grandfather at times, his uncle loved to dominate the conversations.
Mew's grandfather was asking several questions to Gulf, Mew was happy when the conversation turned to soccer, he knew that the younger would speak confidently and comfortably about it and his grandfather really liked talking about that sport, they were so comfortable that his grandfather and Gulf sat at the garden table while chatting so when his father asked him to go to the cellar for more coal Mew immediately obeyed.
Maybe Mew had never been afraid of the basement, but he didn't love the place either, it was cold and dark besides having to go to a corner of the house to get in it had no windows and with the walls so thick if you got trapped maybe they wouldn't hear you call for help.
Mew knew that the bags of coal were in a small room on the other side of the entrance, he tried to turn on the lights but they didn't work, so he took the flashlight that was always by the door, his grandfather was quite cautious, when he took a bag,he heard a loud knock at first, he thought that perhaps the door was closed, but then he heard footsteps in the basement, his skin crawled, he even thought he felt the aroma of his uncle lightly.
He started to leave the small room and the flashlight failed, but he could see the entrance since the door was open and the light was filtering from outside, he didn't know why but he felt very scared, then he heard a loud bang, similar to something falling and with a kind of gasp, he ran to the door, when he came out he slammed the door shut and locked it.
When he caught up with his father he saw that he was alone on the garden, he thought that his grandfather took Gulf to see his trophy collection, Mew's grandfather had been a great soccer player when he was young. He didn't worry about his uncle, he could be wherever he wanted as long as he stayed away from him.
He entered the house looking for Gulf and it was easy to find him since everyone was in the kitchen, his two cousins, his aunt, his mother and his grandfather, but Gulf was missing.
"Grandpa, where did you leave Gulf?", asked Mew.
"He told me he would go help your uncle"
"The fact that..."
"Your uncle told us that he needed a small table to put more things there", Mew's grandfather said. "When Gulf saw that he was going towards the basement he went after him, he told me that he would help him".
Mew ran out, he was worried, leaving Gulf and his uncle together was a bad idea, besides the sounds he heard, maybe his uncle had done something to the younger, that's why he didn't say anything when he left there.
He didn't realize that his cousins were after him, his mother and even his grandfather were there, once they opened the door they were all shocked.
