"So how'd the move go?" Sam asked as he placed the pizza boxes in the centre of the mess room table. After your talk, Dean helped you move what little possessions you had into room 11, while Sam went out on a supply and dinner run.
"You're as bad as your brother. Making it into a bigger deal than it is. I just moved my things from down the hall. It's not like I've physically moved addresses." you replied sarcastically as you went to pull plates out of the cupboard.
"You've been dragging your heels on me for weeks!" Dean had a big grin still plastered on his face. He'd been that way all afternoon, ever since your talk. "It's a big deal and it's worth celebrating!"
You looked at him funny. "With pizza and beer, that we have every other night?"
"Yeah!" he stated obviously. "Don't insult the pizza and beer sweetheart. It's the perfect moving day food! Besides, it's the company and the milestone that makes it special."
You walked over to the table, plates in hand and took up a stool opposite Sam who had already sat down. He had been watching the whole exchange and clearly found it amusing. The smile he now displayed currently rivaled his brothers. "Thanks," he said quickly as you handed him a plate, before adding to the conversation he'd started. "Dean's right. It's a big deal. Especially after everything we've been through. We gotta celebrate the small wins..."
"Well, when you put it like that..." you fumbled.
Dean placed an open beer in front of you and passed one across to Sam before sitting down himself on your right. "So you listen to him and not me?"
Shrugging your shoulders through a sip of your beer had him shaking his head at you. The shit eating grin still there, spread across his face. "Yup," you eventually replied through your own. "Cause he's not bias about the situation."
"Bias? He's my brother and I raised him so he's always gonna be on my side!" Dean countered through his first bite of pizza.
"Don't be so sure of that Dean. She's practically my sister. And when you two get married one day, it'll be official and I won't feel guilty about taking her side." As much as you loved Sam sticking up for you, mentioning the 'm' word was going one step too far and you cringed knowing Dean was probably going to jump in on that train of thought.
Just like clockwork, Dean knew what you were thinking, and feigned insult. "Don't mention that word Sammy! I'll find her back in her old room tomorrow!"
"Damn straight you will!" you added.
"I thought that was all part of the plan?" Sam teased you further. "Didn't you already agree you'd be a Winchester one day?"
You felt like a deer trapped in headlights and had unfortunately chosen the most inopportune time to take a bite out of the pizza slice you'd chosen. Why were they always making comments that made you choke on your food these days?
Dean was chuckling at you but he patted your back just as he'd done at the diner in Spearville. "You gotta stop eating while we're talking to you."
The opportunity to clear your throat gave you the perfect chance to consider how you were going to reply. You loved Dean and yeah, you would more than likely say yes when he asked you one day. But there was a big emphasis on the phrase, one day. If he asked you now, you'd shut him down. If he asked you in a month, you'd still shut him down. And in a year, honestly, your opinion probably wouldn't change.
As for taking on his name and becoming a Winchester? Well, that kind of had a nice ring to it. But you were defiant on the idea right now because of, reasons you didn't have.
