Mavis's POV:

I wait patiently in the kitchen, my leg bouncing up and down, up and down. I glance at the clock on the kitchen counter and sigh. He should be here soon. Without having a cell phone for the day, it was incredibly boring, so I decided to stroll around.

I visited Hansen's tribute in the square and laid down fresh flowers. Once I felt queasy, I decided to continue to walk and go into small shops in the area.

The dress is perfect, and it doesn't look unflattering on me. I am surprised since there is no way Karden knows my size in dresses, but it slipped on like a glove. Now I am drumming my fingers against the table, not impatiently because he is on time but because I am nervous.

After what happened last night, whenever I think about it, it prickles my skin in delight. His lips, his tongue, his possessive demeanor wanting to devour me. Everything left sparks in my stomach and an aching sensual pain to my core. I didn't want him to leave.

Knowing that I'm mated to him feels blissful and serenity.

But how can that work if he's a vampire—something that feeds off human blood and never grows old? How can I be here, in Norway with him when my entire life is in New York?

Everything will be different if I take this bond and unite us as one.

Unless Karden doesn't want it.

I jerk up when there's a knock on the door. I hear a car engine running on the road and headlights beaming. My stomach doubles over in a knot when I stand and grab the clutch on the table and hurry to the door.

Opening the door, Karden is standing with a raised fist and a wolffish grin on his lips.

"I was worried you wouldn't answer." He starts, amusement in his voice.

I raise a brow, "I heard you knock."

"I've been knocking for a few moments." He clarifies when I step out and Karden moves aside.

"Oh," I mutter, my cheeks burning red, realizing that I was daydreaming a little too long about him. My body grows hot again and Karden chuckles, following me behind once I lock the door and step off the patio.

"You look beautiful." He compliments and I glance over my shoulder to find his eyes trail down my figure. "Dress is perfect." Every atom of my being is ready to explode when his hand touches the small of my back.

"You know how to choose the right dress." I reply, glancing down at my breasts peaking between the low-cut V and the slit exposing my thigh every time I take a step.

"For you, anything." His voice deepens when he spins me around and presses me against the passenger door of the car. I gasp, looking up into his dashingly bright eyes, his pupils dilating when he looks at my parted lips.

He's wearing a black suit with a loose tie that matches the same color of my dress. I'm not sure how fancy the theater is but I'm hoping fancy enough that we aren't overdressed.

"You look handsome yourself." I acclaim, smelling the sweet scent of pine needles on him.

Pushing off the car, my front grazes his and he grunts, leaning over and opening the door for me.

"Means a lot from you." He breaths, inhaling sharply when my back grazes him when I turn around. Bending down and sliding into the leather seat I glance around the interior of the car.

It's a Lamborghini sport car that looks like it shouldn't be driven here. Karden walks around and gets into the driver's seat, shifting the gear to drive. Faint foreign music plays from the radio and thick silence wraps around us.
