At Home

It had almost been an hour and there was still deafening silence between mother and child.
"So what did you find?", Violet asked when she could no longer endure the silence.
'Vi, why don't you go first?' her mum replied, knowing fully well that her findings were going to last longer than whatever Vi had found and would likely put a damper on her daughter's mood.

Violet brought out her jotter, cleared her throat for effect and began:
'Patria was the first land occupied by all supernatural beings in the world; and the name Patria means origin, home or homeland.

It was said that the first occupants were the families of Knights who were said to maintain law and order and keep the peace among all beings. They are also known as mages, witches and wizards.

The second settlers were the fairies.
They were good at passing information from one creature to another.

The third settlers were The Vakians (aka Vampires) and The Lycans (aka Werewolves) who started out as enemies and are now amiable.

There were a couple of otherworldly creatures like The Elves, Mermaids and Flapjacks.

They lived happily until anarchy began in their little paradise. Everyone felt they could rule Patriarchal and a lot of blood was shed in that land. Powers were challenged, as everyone had forgotten that while it was their land; it was still no man's land.
And if it truly belonged to anyone, it was firstly The Knights.

The Knight is the ever lawful and peaceful family they are, decided to give the land over to humans and those species with no special ability.

Even after this was done, the war still waged between the Witches, Wizards, Mages and Fairies. The witches being a crafty lot, decided to seek the help of the Vakians who were the oldest and wisest of all supernatural beings.

The war was won, peace reigned over Patria and the witches swore fealty to the house of Vakian for all eternity.

The witches and wizards teamed up and opened up the portal to earth for all creatures to find their friends, slaves, soulmate and other humans they saw great potential in.

That so far is the story about this place, Mom. I think the agreement made by the creatures was to never fight or do anything unworthy on the land to keep up the pact of peace.

"So Mum, what exactly do you think about my research so far?" Vi said.

"You might be right on that, but if everything is according to that book, then those bloodsuckers had no right to come into my house", Lex said without realising it wasn't in her head.

"So mother, now that I'm done with my own presentation, what exactly did you find?" Vi asked Alex.

"Honestly I found quite a lot of things that I can't begin to comprehend, believe me, it is going to blow you away"; she replies with a funny wink and Vi can't decide whether or not to take her seriously.

Alex stood up to get a glass of water and advised Vi to do same and take a seat next to her. She took a sip of water, paused for effect, cleared her throat and connected her phone to her laptop.

When everything was set, she sighed heavily and said: "Proceed with caution, cuz what you are about to see and hear would make you question our very existence".
