A full stomach always makes me lazy. I lie in bed and start counting the glowing stars on my ceiling. One is missing. This upsets me. Begrudgingly, I consider not doing any homework and go straight to bed. I then remember Mr. Zhang and how he has made students stand in for the drama team as extras. The idea of becoming a tree does not appeal to me. It is impossible for me to embody a tree and all of its immeasurable wisdom. After all, I cannot even begin to comprehend Algebra. I grab my laptop and make myself comfortable on the bed. Lying down is too comfortable. I sit up and turn on the laptop. The search engine loads and after an internal debate, I key in 'how to be a tree'. A new tab is opened. 'how to conquer stage fright'.
New tab. 'how to be invisible in plain sight'.
New tab. 'how to disappear'.
New tab. 'how to cease existing'. I have forgotten my main objective.
My phone buzzes by my side. I pick it up to see the new notification and immediately smile at the name displayed on the screen. It is a text from Kat. I enthusiastically read her text: "hey ♡ how are you holding up in the new place?". I type in and include all the events that have taken place since last week before sending it as a reply. In return, she also tells me about her day and starts spam texting me. She rants. I give her a moment to rant. I glance at my laptop and close it with my free hand. We continue to text back and forth for a few hours. She tells me she misses me and wishes that she was here with me. I type in "me too!♡♡♡" but decide to send it after deleting the hearts. I love talking to Kat. She makes me feel better. Mum should send me to see her twice a week instead.
