Redoing Life in Another World From Zero

Chapter 1

Coming out of the convenience store ... noticed that it was really dark outside.

...: Huh it's really getting late.

He had gone to the convenience store to get some snacks and candy while waiting for his friends to get online to play video games, a typical night for him. ... was a highschooler in his junior year who had some lackluster grades and enjoyed watching anime and playing video games. He wasn't into any sports nor did he have any hobbies and was still wearing his school uniform which he was likely going to use for the next day as well.

...: Perhaps I should go to bed early for school since nobody is playing anything tonight, ugh but that's what I did last night I suppose I do need to catch up on that anime.

Saying this despite having homework due tomorrow was the kind of student he was as he was barely passing. While he walked home he noticed his eyes were getting tired.

...: That's not good, I'm getting tired already.

As he scratches his eyes in response a bright light suddenly appears causing him to keep his eyes closed and hold his arms up to cover the light. Along with this bright light it felt as if both the temperature and air around him had suddenly changed.

...: What the hell!

He was shocked as the world felt like it had changed around him as he tried to figure out what had just happened to him. He forced his eyes to open despite the bright light and realized that the light had been coming from the sun.

...: How?

It had turned from night to day in an instant but that wasn't all.

...: Just where am I?

As his eyes got used to the brightness he was met with the view of completely new surroundings. He was now in front of a fountain on a plaza connected to busy streets with buildings that have signs in a language he had never seen before.

The streets were filled with people and carriages, an odd sight compared to the usual cars that filled the streets but even stranger was the fact that the people didn't even look human.

There were lizard, cat, and even sloth people all going about their business along with people that looked like normal humans. While some only had a few features of animals others were completely covered in scales or fur. The carriages weren't pulled by horses either but instead by giant lizards just as large as horses. All of these different species and new surroundings left ... in shock as he tried to get a grasp of the situation.

...: Could it be...

With all these strange people, streets and buildings surrounding him there was one conclusion that someone like him could make.

...: I've been summoned to another world?!

...: Ok ok let's assess the situation.

After the initial shock of suddenly appearing in a new location ... quickly pulled himself together. This was a bad situation to be in as essentially he was lost, broke, and homeless.

...: No matter how you look at it, this is hopeless for me.

The only things that came with him were the snacks that he bought that included chips, various candies, and soy sauce. This food wouldn't last him very long though so it was a high priority to figure out how to get more. It was unsure if the water from the fountain was clean so clean water would also be a worry. Even if he did somehow find work it would likely be a while before he would be able to acquire shelter.

...: The more I think about it the worse it gets. But for now the first step is to figure out where the hell I am.

The first step to surviving in a new environment is to learn about how it works. From the first glance it looks like the place he has arrived at is the typical fantasy world with all sorts of weird races living among each other in a medieval era like society. Even those who look just like regular humans upon further inspection all have unnatural hair colors, easily possible with hair dye but it was doubtful that hair dye was so readily available and used.

... decided to walk down a random street to continue exploring. Just by seeing how far down the street went it looked like this must be a major city given by how large it is, at least over a hundred thousand people.

...: There is also the issue of how I got here.

As he wandered down the busy street he started pondering how he could've gotten to a new world. It was an absurd situation to say the least and he has been given clues as to why.

...: Shouldn't there be something or someone that brought me here? If there was any purpose behind it then why haven't they shown up?

It was typical in animes or games that feature situations like these for a divine being to give some sort of mission to a person to achieve in a new world but it seemed that reality was much harsher.

...: There isn't much I can do about it with no clue of what's happening so for now it's better to just accept that it is.

With no way of ascertaining who had summoned him or how he had no choice but to put that aside. For now he needed to learn a few more specifics about this place like if they even speak the same language and to do so would likely require asking random people.

...: Excuse me sir but could you tell me where we are?

He had gone up to a random person hoping for a few answers, more specifically a human as he was too nervous to talk to a lizard person.

???: Huh? We're right off the city plaza.

... let out a sigh of relief as the man gave a response in the same language as he had asked.

...: What city though.

???: The capital of Lugunica obviously, look I don't have time for this.

With that the man hurriedly left without any farewells.

...: So this place is called Lugunica.

After hearing that he looked around himself, it truly felt like an unreal place like something that belonged only in books and tv. Despite his very unfortunate circumstances however he felt a feeling of relief. Even though he had a comfortable living and went to a good school he had never done much of anything, he was lazy spending his days playing video games and his bad grades left himself with little hope for the future so despite his situation now being even worse it also felt like an opportunity.

Walking forward he was determined to redo life in another world from zero.
