The Same Day
"I don't get why I had to leave Atlanta and go to school in L.A. I could've sworn that after I graduated high school, I get to choose what school or state that I want to go to." Brianna complained, probably the fifth time during the car ride as both of her parents sighed but for differences reason.
"Sweetie, I am very much aware that you're old enough to pick your choice of school but, this would be good that you stayed close with your parents, isn't that exciting?" Her dad asks as Brianna and her mom both looked at him like he's crazy.
The dad sighs, "Alright look sweetie, I know you're old enough but I don't feel right of you being so far away while we moved to a different state. It's not my fault that the job gave me a promotion for a better opportuni-"
"But you knew you could've just refuse and stay where we were. You were making good money at Atlanta and mom loves her job there too, so I don't get it." She cut her dad off and he sighed again as the mom stays quiet, low-key agreeing with their daughter.
"And if you guys are that over-protective, then I could've stayed with Auntie Gloria so she can give you update on my whereabouts including my grades." Brianna suggested, begging her dad to think about it.
"Brianna I've already made up my mind, we're already in L.A. and we're going to our new home. But I'll make a deal with you, how about after this course or the next two years when you get your AA, you can go to wherever you wanna go and I won't be against it, okay?" he suggested, looking at his daughter from his rearview mirror.
"Mom, you seriously cannot be okay with this. Please tell daddy that I am not a baby anymore and that I can make my own decisions." She whined to her mom, hoping that she's on her daughter side.
Her mom sighs, "Look honey, I mostly do agree that you are old enough to pick whatever school you want to go to and your father should've discussed this with us more." The wife said, looking at her husband with a disappointed and hurt written all over her face. Her husband sigh.
"But, maybe this move will be good for us and I would love it that my first and only daughter stays with her parents just a little longer." She says, low-key hoping that her sweet innocent talk would help the situation better but it didn't.
Brianna scoffs. "Whatever" she said and plays music from her iPhone X with her Apple Airpods on.
"Thank you, I know you're upset at me too sweetheart but I believe this big change will be good for us-"
"But we never want or asks for this big change Darryl" she cut him off with upset look. Glad that Brianna is not paying them any mind since she's stuck into her music with her eyes closed feeling tired from their four hour flight.
"I'm sorry but this is the most selfish thing that you have ever done. I understand your company gave you a promotion and I am happy and also proud of you for working so hard to get to where you've always wanted to be but....you knew that you didn't have to take it when you and I both made enough money where we were. My families, my friends, my job, my life are there. I just can't believe you didn't discuss this with me when you and I made a vow that we would tell each other everything and work together as a team." She confessed her feeling, starting to get emotional.
Darryl looks at his wife, feeling like crap for making his two beautiful girls that he cares about the most upset just because he thought he was doing the right thing when sadly; all he did was hurt them. Darryl parked his 2018 Silver Toyota Camry at the nearest IHOP restaurant so he can have a conversation with his wife and daughter.
