Coby walked briskly following Garp whose mood had turned around for the worse the closer they came to the small clinic. Finding Helmeppo and their men by the entrance, Coby felt a sense of relief as nothing seemed to had changed in his absence, but also concern on what the girl in custody would have to say about this. The clinic door swung open and they stepped inside, marching towards the second story, followed by the blonde Marine. Inside the room, they found an empty bed. No patient in sight.
"Where's the girl?" Garp barked as he looked around the room, before he pulled from the Helmeppo's collar, Coby jumped back startled.
"I-I-I don't know, Vice Admiral." His fellow Marine responded, "She was supposed to be here."
"Is there a problem?" A doctor had been doodling on the chair by the bed and stood up with questioning yellow eyes at the scene. Garp grumbled under his breath but surprisingly remained relatively calm, explaining the situation. "Pirates, you say?" The doctor irked his brows. "Those two street rats are up to no good? Why, when his brother came to pick her up earlier- Oh, my, I didn't know they were pirates!"
They left the clinic, not before Coby sent the lousy doctor a dubious glare. At the head of the group, Garp bristled. Coby noticed something peculiar, though, something he hadn't noticed when they left the ship: that inside the Vice-Admiral's right hand clenched into a fist, a glimmer winked from between his fingers. Now that the sun was on its peak, its reflection kept messing with the boy's glasses as they made the way back to port.
At that very same moment, somewhere North, four people met in front of Kaya's mansion.
"Now what?" The voice of Nami made their host snap out of her daze.
"Her bro said we'd meet at port, so..." Usopp informed them with a shrug, while Kaya nodded next to him. Zoro's eyes met Nami's.
"Now, we walk." Zoro replied.
The ginger walked at the front of the group, leading, followed by Zoro and the others over the path in somber silence and reaching the ends of the mansion grounds. At the back, Kaya and Usopp walked at a slower pace to cater her needs.
"Hey, this shouldn't take long." Usopp told her in a quiet, reassuring tone. Kaya frowned up at him. "You're slacking back as if you didn't want to leave."
"I-" What if Luffy had met the Marines they were hiding from? What if him and Coral weren't able to catch up with them at port?
At the front of the group, Nami stopped on her tracks, cutting short their conversation.
"What is it?" Kaya asked aloud, wondering if she was also thinking the same as her.
"Can you hear it?" Nami frowned instead, looking up at Zoro. The stoic man mimicked before slowly nodding. Kaya might have been the last one to hear it. It was the incoming sound of a cart, the usual travelers of the road.
"It's just a farmer." Kaya explained to them. "Merchants ride this road to reach port." They continued walking after her explanation, but even with it being her own words she continued looking behind her shoulder. Then-
"Luffy?" Kaya asked aloud. Usopp's head snapped back.
"What the..." Nami muttered while Usopp touched his headscarf before he threw a punch in the air with a wide grin.
"Yeah. Not just any farmer, huh!" He nudged her.
Kaya leaned sideways, squinting her tired eyes: the full cart came into view and rode closer, guided by an old woman on a large bamboo hat. Next to her, a girl in a hospital robe sat hugging a paper bag to herself, next to the boy with the red vest and straw hat. The first happy smile Kaya managed to make after the nightmare that were the last twelve hours, appeared on her face. The vehicle came to a stop next to the tired group. Luffy brimmed with energy as per usual, when he leaned an arm on the cart looking cheekily down at them.
