...never got to hear my great idea... It was the first voice, the first words, he recalled hearing.

-ever curious... I thought maybe you could teach me how to use a sword...

They came and went unclear, sometimes in full sentences, sometimes as simple words.

... you seem to find joy in upsetting me, pirate hunter...

He also heard plenty of Usopp, who even sang to him, and Luffy at a loss for words. But, maybe he was just dreaming it all.

... I told you in the bar I didn't have any friends, but the truth is, I couldn't let myself have them... because I always end up hurting the people closest to me...

Each time, they sounded closer.

...what's best to keep them safe...

But everything hurt. He wasn't sure he wanted to reach them.

...To keep everyone safe.... You look after those two, will you?

And then, he heard him, as closely as he'd ever heard anyone:

"Hey Zoro... You sure missed a big fight."  There was no trace of his common amusement, only a blank canvas of sound. "I kinda messed it up... I lost Nami, and- " The voice broke, "She was taken again... Like when grandpa did- and I feel..."

Zoro.

His own name was Zoro, he realized. And this was Luffy speaking. And Nami was gone. And Coral... was also gone? He was starting to remember, but... everything was spinning.

"In another life, had she never been brought by Shanks, maybe I could've done just anything. Unstoppable. Boundless... But, I wouldn't change a thing. And whenever she's taken away, I feel..."

He held his breath. Both girls were gone. Why? Were they taken away? Where to?

"And maybe, you'll be taken away too..."

No, he wouldn't. But, he just needed to rest some more.

"There's something I want to say now and it's so simple..." Luffy's voice was utterly disheartened, and he tried to block it out.

He just needed a little more rest. Five minutes even.

"I need you, Zoro. I need you to wake up." But the fervent desire in his voice was difficult to ignore. Like if given an order, he felt his body awakening against his will.

What the hell... Zoro sighed inwardly.

"You're just as loud." He finally spoke, fighting the pain that brought something as simple as opening his eyes. His entire face twitched and it painfully reverberated everywhere to the tips of his toes.

He knew the type of wound he'd received, but his entire chest felt numb, as if a a whole void had come to replace it. That is until he tried to breathe and it felt like his own ribs were puncturing his insides. On top of that, a human hurricane fell upon him as the boy jumped over, looking down at his face. Zoro was laying on a bed, he noticed, and now Luffy was in fours over him.

"Zoro?!" The despair left his voice. "Zoro! ZORO, YOU'RE NOT DEAD!" The swordsman simply gritted his teeth. "Oh!" Luffy hugged him with all his might and he finally allowed himself to groan out load.

"Right now, I'm wishing I was." He croaked, eyes wide-open, before Luffy climbed down off him. Truly, he had never felt this shitty before. He took a moment to regain his breathe before speaking: "I though I was dreaming... But Nami left." He grunted, he opened his eyes to stare at the boy. It wasn't a question.
