Freedom:

I trembled as he continued to hold me claiming me to be his mate. I don't understand how he can be my mate. He held my eyes on his, they were scary, piercing, and glowed like a wolf's, I quickly looked away towards the entrance to the kitchen feeling intimidated under his gaze. Many members of both our packs stormed in at the sound of the brawl that took place moments ago.

"What happened?!" Alpha Hunter tried his best to control his temper after seeing his brother on the floor. I didn't understand why Hunter wasn't attacking this wolf already.

"This is my mate, she will be leaving with us tonight." The man holding me responded without taking his attention of me. I stared helplessly at Hunter and Nyra who looked back equally confused.

Nyra should have held her tongue but instead she talked back, "You can't take her, she's not your mate. She can't even have one!"

His strong hands left my face and he turned to face her and his voice thundered throughout the room, "Who are you to tell me what I can and can't do!" That's when I realized that this was Alpha Darric. He had stepped out when I had greeted the others in the dining room.

"She doesn't have her wolf yet." she whimpered and held onto Hunter's arm as she spoke. For her sake I wished she would stop talking. I looked back at him, and caught his eyes softening.

"Everyone clear the room and get back to dinner. I need to step out with Freedom." He walked ahead of me and opened the backdoor and looked at me to follow him. I glanced back at the people who were slowly backing out of the kitchen. Asher was helping Marc of the ground. Marc's jaw looked misaligned and I blinked back my tears. He was in pain and I couldn't stand to see him like that. I was suddenly being dragged out the door with Alpha Darric storming ahead of me.

He quickly spun me around to face him as soon as we reached the start of the forest in the back yard."Who is he?" was the first of the rapid questions game we seemed to be playing.

"Marc, he's the Alpha's brother." I said watching his expression growing angry."I could care less about that. Who is he to you?"

"He's ..." I couldn't respond. I didn't know what he was to me anymore. Last week we were friends and this week we were almost like a couple. After Marc had walked in on my talk with Nyra, he quickly explained that he's liked me since we were kids. He acted the way he did with Olivia simply to throw off the fact that he liked him; he didn't know that I liked him. With everything finally out in the air, Nyra slipped away from us and we kissed for the very first time. Since then, I've felt love-struck, and we seemed to never spend a moment apart. We tried our best to hide it from the elders in the pack so they wouldn't judge us. Earlier tonight was a moment of weakness, we should have never been caught kissing in the kitchen. At a loss of words I dumbly stated, "He's someone that I like."

As soon as the words left my mouth I was regretted it. His hands rose in the air; I closed my eyes shut waiting for the impact but nothing came. I realized that I had started to cry, he took a step away from me as if to calm himself. "You can't like him. I am your mate," he slicked his hair back, clearing his face of the loose strands. I saw him for the first time in that moment. His face chiseled to perfection, the beard very wolfish yet so beautiful and unique, his eyes screamed mystery and danger. I felt an urge to touch his face and to understand what lay hidden in his eyes. He was tall probably more than the 6"3' that Marc was, his body strong and defined like a man. I felt small next to him but in a good way, like he was my protector and I could literally look up to him. "What did that girl mean about your wolf?" he patiently asked this time, pulling my away from my thoughts.

"I've never shifted," I said biting my lips and shifting my weight to my other foot. "Can you talk to your wolf?" he pressed, stepping closer.

Darric:

'I can feel her, she is in there' my wolf pestered. "My wolf says he can feel her in there," I told her, trying to touch her one more time, but this time she pulled away.

"No, nothing." she said. She went on to explain about her parents and how the Goddess hadn't named her. It was so wrong, what her parents did. Love or not they were cowards. 'Mark her, make her ours. We don't want to lose her like her parents.' No not yet I responded to him. But he was right. If I didn't make her mine now, who's to say she won't follow in her parent's footsteps and go to the baby-faced boy? How I hated him. He was puny and barely a wolf.

Now that I had met her, there was no way I was going to lose her. She stood there in a white dress, messy dark hair looking like an angel. In a lapse of control and a moment of weakness I pulled her towards me taking her lips by force. The kiss hit me like water, I could barely keep breathing. Her once stiff body felt limp in my hands. My heart pounded erratically as I opened my eyes to finding her slumping into darkness. "Freedommm!" my heart stopped. She had fainted. I carried her into the house yelling for water and the pack doctor. I laid her on the couch in the living room thinking the worst scenarios.
