May 1st arrived.
The morning bell rang for our very first day of class. Soon afterward, Chiyabashira-sensei strode into the room, holding a rolled-up poster. Her expression today was happier than usual.
Today morning, I had only received 710,000 private points. To be honest, I had expected more. Even after knowing about the system, we still lost 90 class points.
"Congratulations, as of today, you students are part of Class B," Chabashira-sensei told us, a wide grin spreading across her face.
Everybody cheered.
"Yes! I knew paying attention in class would pay off!"
I stood up, silencing everyone. "Sensei, may I know where we lost the 90 class points to?"
"If I am right, there should have been 3 late arrivals and 1 usage of phone by Sudo, 11 usages of phones, 12 instances of talking and 5 late arrivals by Yamauchi and Ike each, 8 usages of phone and 2 absences by Shinohara, and 15 instances of talking by several girls." I continued.
"This brings the total to 8 late arrivals, 2 absences, 27 instances of talking, and 20 usages of phones. Was that the cause of the loss of points?"
Everybody looked at me, surprised that I had actually counted all the infractions over the part month.
Chabashira-sensei smirked. "Everything you said was true."
I sighed. Even though we had gotten such a huge headstart, we still managed to lose points. Looks like I'll have to be stricter.
Then, from the tube she carried, she removed a white rolled-up poster and spread it out. She stuck the poster to the blackboard with some magnets.
Class A through Class D were listed.
Class A - 940
Class B(D) - 710
Class C(B) - 650
Class D(C) - 490"As you can see, you are now the new Class B. I am very proud of you all." She announced.
Everyone went back into festive mode, talking excitedly.
"Hahahaha! This is all thanks to I, Yamagod!" Yamauchi said proudly. Half the class directed their gazes to him, shaking their heads and glaring at him.
"Are you dumb or something? We only got this many points because of Ayanokouji-kun." Karuizawa said disdainfully.
At this, everyone directed their gazes to me gratefully.
"Still, guys, good job. With the exception of some people, all of you have done well. Keep up the good work," I stood up and told them, hoping to keep their morale high.
“Now then, I have one more bit of news to share with you all.” Her expression turned serious.
She stuck another sheet of paper up on the board. It listed the names of everyone in class. A number stood next to everyone’s name.
“Judging from these, I can see that we’ve quite a few idiots in this class.” As her heels clacked against the floor, she glanced at us. “These are the results of the short test you took a while ago. Your sensei was so happy after your excellent performance. Come on, what in the world did you all study when you were in junior high?”
With the exception of a few high scores, almost everyone tested below a sixty. Even if you ignored Sudou’s wonderful score of fourteen points, there was Ike, scoring a little above him at twenty-four points. The average score was sixty-five.
“I’m so glad. If this were an actual test, then seven of you would’ve had to drop out.”
“D-drop out? What do you mean?” Ike stammered.
