(So I had like 2-3 ideas on how to continue from here- but I decided on the one people would probably like better, but if you wanna know the other one-two outcomes I wouldn't mind making separate chapters for those, I could name them like 2outcome, 3rd outcome.

The air that was once burning chilled as the flames finally extinguished, as the fire settled tanjiro and the other had seen what happen, iguro stood in the way having sliced through the hand of upper moon 2, the demon looked mad, but thankfully this prevented a puncture to rengoku chest that would've killed him.
Rengoku was exhausted and yet surprised at iguro arrival, iguro had jumped into the fight so swift and quickly, and just like that the two barley managed to stall the demon, the sun soon began to rise and the demon had to retreat.
:1 hour later:
The medical crew arrived as they quickly attended to the medical needs of everyone,
Rengoku had been proud he managed to help hold back the demon and prevent any deaths, he soon collapsed exhausted and hurt from the loss of energy and blood, iguro had gotten beat up but had been fine, after their wounds where attended to ,they had all been escorted right back to the estates.

:2 hours later no one's pov:
Rnegoku had just woken up, his body hurt but he noticed a familiar humming, shinobu was standing at his bedside messing with a few medicines, with her kanao watched checking his vitals as she let out a small gasp:
Kanao: he has waken up
She said gently tapping shinobu shoulder, shinobu looked over happy to see rengoku awake as he sat down beside his bed.
Shinobu:good morning rengoku-San ! I hope you're feeling much more rested! You were in such bad shape
Rengoku gently smiled as his voice was lower the normal due to his weaker state, he had a blindfold over his eyes as he turned his head towards her voice.
Rengoku:indeed ! I am fine, I thank you for all your hard work, I'm sure if it wasn't for you and your medical crew I would've been done for.
Shinobu smiled waving the statement off kindly.
Shinobu:no need to flatter me, we only did our best work per usual, I'm sure you wanna hear about the condition you are in?
Rengoku nodded listening intently.
Shinobu:well, you have some bad injuries, one of witch is above the left eye, it damaged some nerves so the eye will be sensitive for a while- I advise you wear a eyepatch or bandage over it till it is ok to use.
Shinobu went on with the injuries he sustained during his battle.
:few small time skip- about 4-5 days:
Rengoku was released from the butterfly estate as he was now good enough to do things on his own, rengoku knew he had to report to his father first, he wanted to tell his dad of his battle, he was mad at himself knowing he had not successfully finished his mission.
Rengoku walked to his home in slight shame as he arrived, the first thing he had noticed was his youngest brother senjuro.
Senjuro noticed someone as he turned seeing rengoku not far away, his eyes widen as he teared up and he dropped his broom quickly rushing over as he leaped into his brothers arms crying and clinging close to him.
Rengoku heart broke a bit seeing his brother crying, he just smiled warmly giving him a tight hug.
Rengoku: it is ok senjuro, I am ok ! Do not worry, I am here now and that's all that matters.
Senjuro clung tighter as his cries became quieter and calmer as he desperately stayed clung to his older brother as if he would vanish at any moment.
After catching up with senjuro and reassuring him rengoku gulped down his worry and fear as he knew the times come to face his father.
He told senjuro to wait outside as he went inside.
When inside he promptly sad down without a word awaiting his dad's acknowledging of his presence in the room.
Shinjuro:....kyojuro...
His father said, but his tone was- different, but he remained facing away now standing as he looked out into the forest and greenery.
Rengoku:...father- I've come to tell you of my missions...I'm sorry..
Rengoku looked down in slight shame as he closed his eyes and his smile was no where to be seen as his face was filled with disappointment and sadness.
Rengoku bowed low placing his head against the floor in slight shame as he spoke.
Rengoku:...I failed to behead the demon..I've failed-..although I managed to save everyone on the train..but that does not deny the fact that I failed in my one duty as a slayer and a hashira...I'm sorry to have brought shame..
Forgive me.
Rengoku bowed deeper as he teared up awaiting an answer.
Instead he was met with silence, then he heard movement, he stayed in his bow not breaking it once as his father slowly moved closer.
Suddenly he was grabbed and yanking to his feet being met with a harshly slap to the face.
Shinjuro:are you stupid ?!!
Rengoku frowned looking down as tears formed, as he went to speak he felt his father pull him closer in a embrace, rengoku eyes widen in pure shock as he hesitantly hugged back unsure of what to do or say as he remained speechless and surprised.
Shinjuro:..you might have failed- and I don't think you would ever be cut out for a hashira or a slayer...but-..you are my son...and I realize...I- could've lost you too...don't ever do something so damn stupid ever again..I can't lose you too.
Rengoku felt his father shake him still hugging him closed as the embrace tighten almost as if his father was also afraid he would vanish any second.
Rengoku heart swelled with happiness and remorse now realizing the pain his family must have gone through not knowing if he would even make it, he quickly embraced his father nuzzling into his shoulder as he choked down tears.
Rengoku felt his father's shaky hands and knew he must have been crying, Rengoku did not mention this not wanting to break the moment, he just smiled as he embraced his father closer reassuring him.
After just a bit his father broke the hug off quickly turning away avoiding letting Rengoku see his face as he allowed him to leave now.

(Small time skip, he chose to stay there for a little while to catch up and spend time with his family relishing in their time together- so, 4 days later)

:no over pov:
Rengoku had returned to the hashira grounds, he was well rested and nearly perfectly healed other then his patched eye, he walked around as he was greeted by all the hashira as they spoke of how glad he was well and alive, mitsuri cried her eyes out as she thanked iguro for saving Rengoku as she clung to rengoku.
Rengoku simply laughed and pat her head adoringly as he showed his thanks to iguro even offering the two a meal, after all that he settled on possibly checking in on uzui- he must be worried.
