Another Monday morning after the midterms week and no student is eager to be at school. Well, let's say there is one.
"Jhoanna Robles, are you here?"
"Present po, ma'am!"
Jhoanna's classmates always wonder how she gets her energy and enthusiasm to be excited about school. She has a social life with her close friends but she takes studies way too seriously like it would be the end of the world if the girl has a failing score.
"Settle down everyone, I would like to announce that Jhoanna Robles got the highest mark of the Algebra's midterm exams in this section. Give her a round of applause."
All students complied to what their professor said while Robles just smiled to the people around her as she took her paper from the professor's hand. Two mistakes, not bad.
"Now that I have distributed all your papers, I also want everyone to know that the student who got the highest mark on this examination is from section B who got a perfect score. Anytime soon, maybe one of you might get to transfer on another section so you better study diligently if you want to remain here."
That made Jhoanna's classmates shocked not because of their worry on transferring on another section but because the girl didn't manage to top the batch on the exam. Some started to saying their "oohs" but it didn't take that long after the professor ordered to be quiet as she will start to teach a new lesson for their lecture time.
"How does it feel like to not be on first place?"
"Shut up, Shee. I am trying to listen on the new lesson we are having."
"Ay sus, keep denying that because you look so distracted right now. Overthink well!"
Jhoanna just rolled her eyes on Sheena who is one of her best friends as her attention went back to the front with the professor illustrating new graphs for the students to learn. After an hour of that, the school bell rang which indicates that the class is over. Jhoanna couldn't swallow her pride knowing that someone has surpassed her scores especially that the student is from another class so she immediately went to the professor to raise on regards to that concern.
"Good afternoon, ma'am. I would like to ask if it is okay on what I went wrong on the mistakes I had during the examination."
"Oh sure! You see, your answer is actually correct however you lacked one step on the solving process in order for you to reach this equation you have written. You also did the same thing on another item as well but I just deducted one point each for that. I know it's quite sayang but I have to do what I have to do in order for you to learn."
"I totally get it, ma'am. Last question sana, may I know who is the one who got a perfect mark of this examination?"
"As I have mentioned, she is from section B and her name is...
"Good afternoon, ma'am! The dean is looking for you po. Ang sabi niya po ay pupunta ka na sa office niya agad."
It was Aiah, a graduating student, on the door relaying the message to Jhoanna's professor which disrupted the conversation.
"I will tell you next time, Robles. For now, be proud since you have an amazing score. I should get going now, ingat kayo."
Jhoanna didn't push it despite on how she is really curious to know who the person was.
"Thanks a lot, Ate Aiah."
"Hala that's sarcasm, anong nagawa ko?"
"Malapit na kasi matapos ni ma'am yung conversation namin eh. I wanted to know who got the highest mark sa midterms on our batch and ang perfect talaga ng timing mo."
