She took it better than I expected her to. When I was finished talking, she was quiet for a few seconds. Then, reluctantly, she told me about the dream she had about a woman dressed in black, telling her that she needed to help me.
"What about that crystal you wear?" Emma asked after another long pause. "Does that do anything to help you?"
"I think it's a link." I said. "It shakes every time I get pulled somewhere like that."
"Who is it that you need to destroy, exactly?" She continued without really listing. "He's a demon, right?"
"I don't know. Ellias only said-"
"How do you know he's not lying to you?"
I didn't answer. Instead, I reached into my bag and pulled out the coin Luka had given me. I flipped it around in my fingers and pulled out the box, holding the phone to my ear awkwardly with my shoulder.
"Only one way to find out." I muttered, mostly to myself.
Carefully, I set the coin in place, bracing myself for something, anything, to happen. There was a small click as the sides seemed to unseal themselves. I tugged it open, then promptly set it on the bed.
"Elliot?" Emma asked. "Are you still there."
I pulled out a blue, carved knife, as long as my forearm. The blade was swirled with different shades of cobalt blue, and looked as if it was made from marble. The hilt was wrapped with thick leather, only one space on each side visible. Faintly, I could see ruins carved in the open space. It was light in my grasp, despite its weight, as if it were just another extension of my arm.
"I know what's in the box." I said, awe filled. "It's the knife Ellias was talking about. The knife I'm supposed to use."
"Are you sure you can trust him?" Emma asked doubtfully. "It sounds like no one else you've met has been very helpful. Or not wanted you dead."
"He said they were going to find me, that there was going to be war. And that it wasn't going to be pretty." I said after a moment. "Emma, he wants us to go to the Otherworld."
She didn't respond.
"You don't have to do this." I said. "Not if you don't want to."
"Well," She said, voice shaking a little, "I'm not going to let you go away and have adventures by yourself."
"Thanks." I said quietly.
"Ya, whatever." Emma mumbled. "Look, what else did he say?"
That reminded me.
"That you can see the supernatural. As in demons and angels."
"I know what the supernatural is!" She snapped. "And its not like I didn't already know that."
I wasn't surprised. She had been too calm.
"Did you know I was different?"
"Of course. That's why I didn't want to work with you in Gracys' class." She said. "But then I thought I was wrong, when you helped me clean up the water."
"What about Jax?" I asked.
She sighed.
"I just thought he was weird." She admitted. "We never spent much time together, so I never had the chance to ask him anything. Speaking of which, he's gone."
"Gone?"
"He wasn't at school this morning no ones seen him since yesterday afternoon." Said Emma weary. "I was going to tell you, but you sidestepped me."
