We walk in, and I take my shoes off by the door while Jace tells his mother that I'm here. Soon after, Jace tells me to go upstairs and wait for him.
I flop onto his bed and debate on whether I should cuddle into the covers, I then remember I need to tell my dad that I'm over. "Oh sh*t." I hastily pull my phone out of my sweater pocket and start texting my dad
"Hey dad, if you're wondering where I am, I'm over Jason's house."
"I would have asked you in person, but you weren't home, I just decided to go"
"Love you"
After I'm done texting him, I start to scroll on tiktok till I see Jace open the door.
"Hey man,"
I nod my head in response, still looking at my phone
"What do you wanna do?"
"Mmm..idk you can decide," I said, not really having anything planned
"Well, I wanna know why you needed me to pick you up."
I finally stray my eyes away from my phone to look at him
"Oh um..yeah" I sit up and shuffle a bit, patting at my side. He plops beside me. "Well?"
"Well," I begin
"While I was walking home..um after we split up. I heard some screaming, so I went to check it out. I saw this girl getting dragged away, and I just didn't know what to do, I was gonna boogie, but..."
I pause, and my eyes start to shift around the room, I rub my palms on the blanket.
Jace signals with his hand for me to continue
"Then she spotted me. She started screaming for me to help her. The guy who was kidnapping her muffled her mouth and started to turn around, so"
I took a short breath
"I ran away."
I look back at Jace after staring at my lap. He puts an arm around my neck.
"I get it, I think." He glanced to the side but then focused back to me."Don't sweat it, you have enough on your plate, " he said while giving me a reassuring smile.
"Did you call the police?" I look away. "...no"
He looked at me with a hint of confusion in his face, "Why?""Because! I don't know. I didn't think about it I was freaked out and I mean" I fiddle with my shaky fingers "I didn't know if he saw my face, if I tell on him he might hunt me down or something!" Jace looks at me and then puts his hand on his chin, thinking.
"I guess that makes sense, I don't blame you," He says, shrugging his shoulders.
"Wanna play video games?" Jace says, changing the topic. "Okay," I smile, it was a breath of fresh air. "You can change into something more comfortable now." Jace states
Damn it
I say to myself.
I forgot everything I could have possibly needed for a sleepover at home, I completely forgot I was staying over.
"By that face, I can tell that you forgot, huh?"
I look at him apologetically
"Yeah..sorry."
"Don't worry!" Jace says.
"I've got stuff you can wear."
He begins pulling an assortment of clothes out of his drawer
"Here, you can wear this." he gives me a big shirt with some sweatpants .Thanks," I reply, walking into the bathroom to change.
When I'm finished changing a walk out and Jace already has everything set up.
I sit next to him and get comfortable.
"So," Jace starts
"What are we playing first?"
